Chapter 205 Central of the Department of Massachusetts Military Order of the Purple Heart State Commander Leo Agnew recently presented the proclamation to selectmen.

Westborough has become only the second "Purple Heart Community" in Massachusetts.

Chapter 205 Central of the Department of Massachusetts Military Order of the Purple Heart State Commander Leo Agnew recently presented the proclamation to selectmen.

State Rep. Matthew Beaton (R-Shrewsbury) and state Sen. Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton) presented a citation from the House and the Senate, on behalf of Westborough's legislative delegation.

Selectman Timothy Dodd said Westborough also received a citation from Gov. Deval Patrick.

In July, selectmen proclaimed Westborough a "Purple Heart town."

Selectman Denny Drewry suggested it.

He is a Purple Heart Medal recipient, and an adjutant for Chapter 205 Central of the Department of Massachusetts Military Order of the Purple Heart.

The proclamation notes that "many citizens of our community have earned the Purple Heart Medal as a result of being wounded while engaged in combat with an enemy force, construed as a singularly meritorius act of essential service."
