Tretter Resigns From School Committee

He cited a 'conflict of interest' with his new job.

Longtime Westborough School Committee member Bruce Tretter has resigned, citing a "conflict of interest" with his new job.

"I'll be doing school related consulting work and have asked (Westborough School Superintendent) Marianne O'Connor to be a reference," Tretter said Friday.

Tretter said he resigned from the board on Tuesday, ending "12 very fun years."

Voters re-elected him to a three-year term, unopposed, at the March annual town election.

Tretter said he "won't consult in Westborough schools but am contacting superintendents across the state and think it's best to have a superintendent reference, especially someone I've worked with as long as I have with Marianne."

"I haven't given out Marianne's name yet, but that's where the conflict would exist. Specifically, school committee members evaluate the superintendent. The objectivity of my evaluation of her would therefore be compromised," he said.
