Why are people going hungry in Westborough?

Two hundred years from now, will people ask, "What was wrong with us?" We had exceptional prosperity, exceptional bounty, exceptional resources. Will they say, "They had the opportunity to do something about hunger, and they refused to address it"? —Senator Ted Kennedy, 1975

"As long as the problems of the poor are not radically resolved by rejecting the absolute autonomy of markets and financial speculation and by attacking the structural causes of inequality, no solution will be found for the world's problems or, for that matter, to any problems." - Pope Francis

These days, the trend is to put the responsibility for being poor and hungry on the backs of the poor and hungry. I donate to the Pantry all the time, but it is not enough. There are some things that can only be addressed collectively and that is why we have government.

If Congress can vote out a farm bill that subsidizes millionaire farmers and big ag, but cuts food stamps, whose benefits are laughable to begin with, and WE find that acceptable, it does not speak well of us as a society at all.
