WHS Ice Hockey Team to Watch UNH

The Rangers will hear from the UNH coaches during an upcoming overnight trip.

The Westborough High School varsity ice hockey team will study college hockey soon for the second straight season. The Rangers will leave for the University of New Hampshire on Nov. 30 and return Dec. 1. The school committee approved the trip Wednesday night after meeting with head coach Tom Temple and Athletic Director Johanna DiCarlo. The team visited the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2011.  “The primary thing was trying to build the program and get it back where it really belongs. I think the team did a great job. We ended up in second place last year. There was a better camaraderie, better mix of the players,” said Temple, who’s in his third year leading Westborough. Search for Student's Body Temporarily Halted

Rough waters forced searchers to put their recovery efforts on hold.

The search for the body of University of New Hampshire student and Westborough resident Elizabeth Marriott was temporarily halted Sunday due to rough waters in the Piscataqua River, according to WMUR. Associate Attorney General Jane Young told the television station that the "challenging waters" near Peirce Island in Portsmouth forced searchers to put their recovery efforts on hold. She said her office will be working with other agencies to determine that the next step will be. Seacoastonline reported that the attorney general's office does not expect to release any further information today. Friends and Family Mourn the Death of Lizzi Marriott

Hundreds gathered at Bay State Commons in Westborough to participate in a vigil for Lizzi Marriott.

"This light on the table represents the light of God, and the light that shines in the darkness and the light that is Lizzi Marriott," pastor John Wesley Taylor told the crowd of hundreds that gathered at Bay State Commons Saturday night. On Saturday morning, dozens of community members had gathered at this same place to figure out ways to expand the search for Elizabeth "Lizzi" Marriott. By evening, Bay State Commons had become the meeting place to mourn her loss. Marriott, who attended UNH, was last heard from on Tuesday evening, when she texted a friend.
