The three-time state representative will be representing Holliston and Hopkinton, along with parts of Southborough and Westborough.
Democrat state Rep. Carolyn Dykema has won the 8th Middlesex District Rep. seat over Republican challenger Marty Lamb. Both candidates from Holliston faced off in a battle in which Dykema won, taking home 792 votes in Westborough, 3,169 in Southborough, 5,209 in Holliston and 4926 in Hopkinton. Lamb won 500 votes in Westborough, 2,315 in Southborough, 2,771 in Holliston and 3296 in Hopkinton. Numbers for Southborough were taken from reports on the Boston Globe's election website. Lamb conceded the race to Dykema earlier tonight telling the Worcester Telegram that he was proud of the campaign that he ran. "'I just want to thank all of my campaign volunteers from the bottom of my heart. We ran a good campaign and they were the best …

To the Editor: Our state’s unemployment has jumped up for the third straight month. If we want to turn around our economy, the Commonwealth must be more business friendly. Only one candidate for state representative has a plan. That candidate is Marty Lamb. As a small business owner and former vice president of New Jobs for Massachusetts, Marty has developed a five-point plan to help the small business community that creates three out of every four new jobs. He knows what it will take to get our economy rolling again. Marty is the only candidate with a plan to improve the business climate in Massachusetts. We need a leader, not a follower, at the State House. We need balance in the State House. That means we need people to vote the issue, …

To the Editor: Gas is now $4 per gallon. There is no end in sight on how much we are going to be paying. If we have a cold winter, gas could easily reach $5 per gallon. This is absolutely the wrong time to raise the gas tax. Drivers cannot afford any more. Unfortunately, our state representative, Carolyn Dykema, who voted to raise our sales tax 25 percent and voted to double tax alcohol, (and) supports raising the gas tax. Also, she likes toll increases and has opposed legislation requiring that all toll increases be implemented by only a vote of the Legislature. On the other hand, Marty Lamb is opposed to raising the gas tax. He knows that our state doesn’t have a revenue problem. We have a spending problem. Lamb has several proposals to …

To the Editor: There is so much that my opponent fails to disclose about her voting record. She votes for the Speaker, not the district. My opponent fails to mention that the percentage she votes with the Speaker is 95.37. At the Hopkinton debate last week, Rep. Dykema admitted to voting wrong. She doesn't vote for the district. She votes for the Speaker 95.37 percent of the time. You don't have to believe me. I am happy to send people her voting record. She claims to always vote for the district, but yet she sent $35 million of our tax dollars to bail out Lawrence. That did not help Holliston, Hopkinton, Southborough, and Westborough. I am not surprised by this attempt to mislead voters, because on Wednesday, the Worcester Telegram …

The state representative says it leads to 'more polarized politics.'

To the Editor: Over the past few months, I have seen a statistic repeated over and over again by my opponent: the percentage of the time that I "vote with the Speaker." I hope voters will carefully consider how this statistic is being used. I believe that it represents a dangerous partisan mindset that takes us further down a path toward more polarized politics and away from the people our government is intended to serve. To be clear, I vote and have always voted in a way that I believe best represents the interests of our district 100 percent of the time. While it’s not possible that my position will always be supported by all of our residents, in every case I do my best to understand the varied perspectives that you share with me, and …

To the Editor: Do you know who is running for state Senate to represent Westborough? Do you know who is running for state representative in your precinct? At the present time, in the state Senate there are four Republicans, and 36 Democrats. In the House of Representatives, there are 33 Republicans, and 127 Democrats. Over 80 percent of Democrat legislators vote more than 90 percent of the time with their Speaker. This leads to a predetermined outcome of most bills before they are even introduced, and a promiscuous dose of power to the Speaker! Is it a surprise that we have a serious problem with abuse of this power and corruption leading to the indictment of the last three Speakers? Too many bills are not transparent and available for you…

The Westborough Republican Town Committee organized the event.
Three Republican candidates for the State House visited a Westborough bookstore Thursday night to say a few words to local voters. Steven Levy, Marty Lamb and Dean Cavaretta attended the event at the Tatnuck Bookseller, organized by the Westborough Republican Town Committee. Levy (R-Marlborough) is running for re-election as Fourth Middlesex District state representative against Danielle Gregoire (D-Marlborough). The district includes Westborough Precincts 1 and 3. Lamb (R-Holliston) is running for Eighth Middlesex District state representative against incumbent Carolyn Dykema (D-Holliston). The district includes Westborough Precinct 2. Cavaretta (R-Stow) is running for Middlesex and Worcester district state senator against incumbent Jamie…

The Eighth Middlesex District state representative candidates debated in Hopkinton on Monday night.
Both candidates for Eighth Middlesex District state representative are touting their performances during their debate Monday night in Hopkinton. In campaign press releases this week, incumbent Carolyn Dykema (D-Holliston) and challenger Marty Lamb (R-Holliston) defended their positions on a wide range of issues, from the economy to bi-partisanship. "Lamb had more specifics when it came to education, controlling state spending, and reviving the economy," Lamb's campaign said. Meanwhile, Dykema "credited her common sense approach to taxes and fiscal reform to her business education and decades of experience working in small and large local companies," her campaign said. Dykema and Lamb fielded questions Monday night from Michelle Murdock of …

Who do you want to see as the eighth Middlesex district state representative?
The election is nearly upon us and incumbent Carolyn Dykema and challenger Marty Lamb are both looking for a victory. In April Lamb, R-Holliston, announced his plans to run against Dykema and the campaigning has been going since then. Dykema, D-Holliston, and Lamb have discussed issues such as running a "clean campaign." and sales taxes. With only three and a half weeks left before the Nov. 6 election we want to know where you stand. Submit your vote in the poll and tell other readers why in the comments section.
