A March 23 reception is the last time to buy art.
The Westboro Gallery will close later this month, ending 15 years in downtown Westborough. "I think the last few years have been a struggle, because people aren't buying ary the way they used to," Communications Director Holly Kenny said Wednesday. The board members of the not-for-profit cooperative gallery at 8 West Main St. voted unanimously on Feb. 21 to close, Kenny said. The cooperative has about 22 members, with as many as 25 during its history, she said. The last day to buy art is March 23, when a special closing reception will be held from 2 to 5 p.m., she said. Until then, art will be for sale from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays; from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and from noon to 3 p.m. Sundays. Fixtures will be for sale …

The Westborough firm launched in September.
A new Westborough business helping pet owners pay veterinary bills is filing for federal nonprofit status. PetChance.org founder Peter Alberti says the change “will help us to accelerate our ability to collect donations and support the business.” “It was a great move,” says Alberti, a Northborough resident. “The client base that we have, the people who are raising money, are literally putting on their Facebook pages, ‘Make a donation to my pet, and they’re tax deductible.’ But it isn’t if we’re not nonprofit.” Launched Sept. 6, PetChance.org asks pet owners to create a “chance,” in which they “say which you are using. And we call the vet and say, ‘Is this your client? Is this your patient? Is this the medical treatment? And how much does …

Sky Zone officials meeting with planning board on Tuesday night.
An indoor trampoline park wants to land in Westborough -- rather than Northborough, as planned. Sky Zone officials will meet with the planning board at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Forbes Municipal Building, Town Planner Jim Robbins said Wednesday. Westborough Health Inspector Terry Gilchrist told the board of health in her January report that Sky Zone "wants to open behind (the) Burlington Coat Factory," which is at 290 Turnpike Road (Route 9). "They most likely would be selling food," Gilchrist wrote. Sky Zone recently announced plans to open in Northborough, at 30 Forbes Road. However, owner David O'Connor said Wednesday he was preparing to sign the lease when he decided to change direction. "There is a high likelihood I will go down the road…
The event is Tuesday.
NorthStar Youth Forum officials will hold shovels next week so that more guests can use hockey sticks at the site later this year. The ground breaking for NorthStar's new rink is at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Executive Director Denise Marco said Wednesday. The $4 million Rink C project is expected to open at 15 Bridle Lane on Labor Day weekend, Marco has said. A Nov. 30 grand opening is planned. NorthStar will expand its programming when the rink opens.

Health inspector says she has received calls from prospective tenants.
The Bagel Bistro's current location might house at least one new restaurant. Health Inspector Terry Gilchrist told the Westborough Board of Health in her January report that she has received calls "from several people who want to put in food services in the old Bagel Bistro location" at 72 East Main St. "The owner wants to split the facility and make it into two spaces," Gilchrist wrote. The Bagel Bistro, a restaurant, caterer and wholesale bakery, plans to move across the street into the Downtown Crossing space recently vacated by the Bangkok Thai Restaurant. The Bagel Bistro has rented space at 72 East Main St. for nearly 16 years, starting May 15, 1997, owner-executive chef Stephen Chitow has said.

Patina opened on the rotary in early December.
Kelly O’Malley’s hand-painted vintage furniture and antiques shop has a new home. Patina opened at 10 South St., on the Westborough rotary, in early December. “The town has been phenomenal. December was a great month for me,” O’Malley says. “People stopped and introduced themselves. They were thrilled that a shop like this opened, and very receptive.” O’Malley says the business moved to Westborough after a year as the Patina Barn, at her Sutton home. “I had a brand new barn that we built. It was two businesses in the barn: my husband’s business and my business,” she says. “However, it would have been a destination spot for people – no drive-by traffic, no foot traffic.” Her search for a more visible storefront took her through the area. “A…

Art and Frame Emporium wants to display art in empty storefronts.

Monday, February 4
To the Editor: My name is Edward Turner. I am a professional artist and a new store owner. I own the Art and Frame Emporium in Westborough and I have, as a profession, illustrated for over 25 years now. I am working close with the landlord to create a unique show for this spring. I am in charge of a small number of unrented storefronts in our mall. I am now looking to enhance the storefronts with original art. This is where you step in. Are you interested in showing your work with my help in hopes to sell it? This is the event. It's title will be "Art and The Marathon." The committee from Hopkinton (the town that has the marathon starting line) is working with me to create a venue for this. It is coming up in April. I plan on …
