ZBA's Johnson Won't Seek New Term

He'll step down this summer after 33 years on the board.

Westborough Zoning Board of Appeals member Jim Johnson won't seek another term, ending 33 years on the board. Selectmen Vice Chairman George Barrette said Tuesday night that Johnson had written to selectmen and asked not to be reappointed on July 1. Barrette thanked Johnson, the current ZBA chairman, for doing what is "sometimes a very tough job." The ZBA's work is "not light lifting, especially recently," Barrette said.

Planning Board to Discuss Westborough Woods

The Westborough Planning Board on Tuesday night will discuss the Westborough Woods housing project, proposed for Route 9 near Otis Street. The topic is on the agenda under old business/new business without a specific time. The board meets at 7 p.m. at the Forbes Municipal Building. The zoning board of appeals is holding a public hearing on developer 346 Turnpike Road's request for a comprehensive permit under the state's Chapter 40B affordable housing law. The board discussed the project last Monday. The hearing continues at 7:30 p.m. April 29. The 314,230-square-foot Westborough Woods project proposed for 346 Turnpike Road consists of 250 rental apartments, of which 62 would be affordable; a 6,234-square-foot clubhouse with outdoor …

I am from an abutting town. I see and hear the police are always at our large 40b units. We need more officers to support these units. I think because so many people are in a small space. We loose money from taxes because of the cost of students. So it's not a smart financial decision. If you can find a way out I suggest you do so. I and many residents wish we had. The developers of Westborough Woods, a 250-unit apartment complex proposed for Route 9 near Otis Street, face a Westborough Zoning Board of Appeals public hearing in January. The ZBA's hearing on 346 Turnpike Road LLC's request for a comprehensive permit at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, in the Forbes Municipal Building, according to the public hearing notice filed at Westborough Town Hall. The 314,230-square-foot project proposed for 346 Turnpike Road consists of 250 rental apartments, of which 62 would be affordable; a 6,234-square-foot clubhouse with outdoor swimming pool; and a 5,234-square-foot retail building, according to the Sept. 7 Certificate of the state Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs on the Environmental Notification…
