Youth Cheer Places 2nd at Nationals

The competition was Saturday in Florida.

Westborough Youth Cheer's D13 team placed second at the nationals in Orlando, Fla. on Saturday, Director Jessica Meleski said today. The team also record its highest score -- 127 -- of the competition season, she said. The Westborough team returned home with a trophy from the nationals, where they competed against three other teams, Meleski said. "It's fantastic. I couldn't be more proud," she said. Westborough Youth Cheer is in its second year. This year's D10 team reached the New England Regionals, where its division included 11 teams, Meleski said. "They had a very big challenge," she said.

Westborough Youth Cheer Team Competing in Nationals

A Westborough Youth Cheer team will end its season in Orlando, Fla. this weekend. Competing in the nationals. The D13 team qualified for Saturday's national competition after advancing from the Nov. 24 New England Regionals at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence. The cheerleaders leave for Florida on Wednesday, Westborough Youth Cheer Director Jessica Meleski said Tuesday. Westborough will be among four teams competing in its division, she said. "It's pretty big for the program, in its second year, to have a cheer team headed to the nationals," she said. Westborough Youth Cheer Squads Reach New Englands

The Nov. 24 competition is at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence.

Both Westborough Youth Cheer teams are a step away from the national stage. The U10 and U13 teams advanced to the Nov. 24 New England Regionals at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence after competing in the Central Mass. Youth Football and Cheer Conference's Local Competition at Lowell's Tsongas Arena on Saturday, Westborough Youth Cheer Director Jessica Meleski said Monday. The top three teams in each division at the regionals advance to the Dec. 8 nationals in Orlando, Fla., she said. Saturday, in Lowell, Westborough's U10 team placed second among 10 teams, Meleski said. The teams were judged on such skills as technique, tumbling and pace, she said.

Two Westborough Youth Cheer Teams Earn an 'A'

They won their divisions at a competition last Saturday.

Judges gave two new Westborough Youth Cheer teams an A at the squads' first competition last Saturday. The U10 and U13 both won their divisions at the Central Mass. Youth Football and Cheer Conference Fun Competition, held in Clinton, Westborough Youth Cheer Director Jessica Meleski said Monday. The teams next compete in the conference's Local Competition, on Oct. 20 at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell. The Westborough teams were competing for the first time since the town's program started last year, she said. "Basically, we were a start-up program last year," Meleski said.
