Westborough Players' Club Show Has Unusual Twist

Two of the actresses have played each other's roles.

During a Westborough Players’ Club rehearsal of “Arsenic and Old Lace” last week, Beverly Bourgeois and Elizabeth Horman were on stage together and “she said one of my lines and I said one of her lines,” according to Bourgeois. Bourgeois plays Abby Brewster, and Horman plays sister Martha Brewster. The actresses have played each other’s roles in other productions of the play – an unexpected twist to this weekend’s shows. “As long as we don't get ourselves mixed up,” everything should be fine, Bourgeois said during another rehearsal last week. “Abby and Martha almost end each other's sentences." The Westborough Players’ Club’s performances of the Joseph Kesselring play are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, at…

Message of Westborough Players' Season Opener: Hope

'Annie' will be performed at Gibbons Middle School on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Westborough Players’ Club’s 76th season opener will resonate with audiences musically. And, to some degree, personally. Part of "Annie's" appeal is it is “a show that people would love and that we could have kids and adults in and that would be a lot of fun,” director Sarah Worrest says. At the same time, “Annie” is set during the Great Depression, with “a lot of real historical” references, a facet that “hits home for me this year,” she says. “I see people struggling. People aren’t living on the streets in the sort of masses that they were in the 30s, but people are having a hard time financially with their jobs. There’s that sort of echo there,” Worrest said during rehearsal Friday night at the Gibbons Middle School. The shows are at…

Happy to do it! I think community arts are a very important public good.. if I can help folks get the recognition they ought to get, or get a few more tickets sold to support these programs, then I have done something I can be proud of. Living on a disability income, I can't afford to donate money but I can donate some time and what I have learned in terms of getting stage shots- and am proud to …   more ›

Players' Club Adds 'Season' to Tickets

The local theater company is selling season tickets for the first time.

Some audience members attending the Westborough Players' Club's upcoming season opener also will have seats -- for the first time -- for the year's remaining two productions. The club's new season ticket program had generated about eight or 10 sales as of Friday night, Corresponding Secretary Ted Frumkin said during rehearsal for "Annie" that evening, at the Gibbons Middle School. “I think that what’s been helpful is we got the word out early about this show and the rest of the season," he said. "All three shows, we were able to get the rights early. So, we were able to hire the directors already. The season’s totally planned for the year. So, now we can announce it.” Season tickets are $40 for adults, and $20 for seniors and students. By …
