Small Site Near Lowe's Interests 2 Developers

But, the land "will be tough to develop," McNulty says.

Two developers are interested in "a small piece of land on the north side of Route 9, across from Lowe's," according to Director of Public Health Paul McNulty. In his March report to the board of health, McNulty said he met with the developers three times last month, but "I don't know why the sudden interest in this parcel." "The land is probably all filled land with a high water table," McNulty wrote. "There is no municipal sewer or water available, so it will be tough to develop." McNulty also wrote that he held an administrative meeting with the regional manager and store manager of Boston Market's Massachusetts Turnpike restaurant "regarding the repeat violations at the facility." "We discussed the high turnover rate and how the chain …

Gerardo's Bakery Plans Full Bakery

Here are the highlights of the February health inspection reports.

Westborough health officials found nothing warranting a public hearing during their February inspections. Director of Public Health Paul McNulty, Town Sanitarian Steven Baccari and Health Inspector Terry Gilchrist presented their February inspection reports to the board of health Tuesday night. McNulty noted in his report that he and Gilchrist toured Spices Indian Kitchen, where, he said, "the owner is having a hard time with his retail business." Selectmen recently granted a common victualer's permit to add 30 seats. "He can do it if he overcomes some Bldg Dept. issues," McNulty wrote. McNulty also said he and Baccari, meanwhile, met with the operator of the YMCA's spa pool to discuss the plans to remodel it. McNulty and Baccari also met …

Health Meeting With Boston Market Sought

'Heavy personnel turnover' at the Mass Pike location means unfamiliarity with health issues, McNulty says.

Westborough health officials want to meet with a Boston Market regional manager about "repeat violations" at the restaurant's Mass Pike service area location, Director of Public Health Paul McNulty says. McNulty held an administrative meeting with Boston Market's on-site management last month, he told the board of health in his December report. "There is a heavy personnel turnover at this facility, so there is little knowledge of previous violations by the ever changing managers or staff," McNulty wrote.

Health Dept. Wants Part-Time Help

Staffing unchanged since 1983.

The Westborough Health Department is going “about a year between a lot of inspections” due to the department staffing level, Director of Public Health Paul McNulty said Tuesday night. The board of health then voted to pursue funding to add a part-time employee, the first staffing increase since 1983, McNulty said. The employee is needed now for food inspections, but wouldn’t be limited, he said. The department has a “risk-based inspection program, where less-risk prone places, we don’t do as often,” he said. “When it was seven, eight  months, it wasn’t too bad. But now that it’s a year, there’s just more and more violations in each place. They get into some really bad habits. We really should be in there once every six months,” he said. …

Lodging House Issues Corrected

In fact, all violations found at Westborough businesses in October have been addressed.

The owner of an East Main Street lodging house has addressed sanitary, building and fire code violations, Director of Public Health Paul McNulty said today. Rasheed Warab appeared before selectmen Sept. 25 during a public hearing on the issues at his 13-unit site at 8 East Main St. Selectmen voted 4-0 to require all violations to be corrected by Oct. 31, Otherwise, they said, Warab's lodging house license would be suspended Nov. 1 until all violations are corrected to the satisfaction of health, building and fire departments. During the Sept. 25 hearing, attorney Peter Kachajian Jr. said Warab had addressed "approximately 90 percent" of the health code violations that the Worcester Housing Court has ordered him to correct by Oct. 31. …

Early Line Common at Household Hazardous Waste Day

This year's event is Saturday.

The best time to attend Westborough's Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Day on Saturday might be a few hours into it. "You always get a lot of people right when we open, at 7:30 a.m. Typically, there's always a line at 7:30," Sanitarian Steven Baccari says. "Usually, we're less crowded from 10 to 11. And for some reason, right before we close, we get busy again." The event runs from 7:30 a.m. to noon at the Department of Public Works building at 133 Oak St. Proof of residency is required. The event, held yearly in the fall, typically draws 450 to 500 cars that Clean Harbors charges Westborough for, Baccari says. Clean Harbors doesn't charge Westborough for clean oil, or for propane tanks, he says. Styrofoam collection is new this year, …
