Trader Joe's Recall: Frozen Chicken and Rice Meal

The grocer has voluntarily recalled 240 cartons of a frozen chicken and rice meal due to possible listeria contamination.

Trader Joe's has voluntarily recalled a batch of one of its frozen chicken and rice meals from store shelves in 14 states, including Massachusetts, due to possible listeria contamination. The neighborhood grocer announced over the weekend it was alerted by its supplier that some Trader Joe's Butter Chicken with Basmati Rice meals may be affected. The products in question are: SKU 99032 with a production date of "305 12" and come in 12.5-ounce packages. "In accordance with our stringent health and safety standards, and out of the utmost caution and care for our customers, all code dates of this product have been removed from sale and destroyed. Peanut Butter Plant to Trader Joe's, Whole Foods Shut by FDA

The Sunland Inc. plant that distributes products to Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Sprouts, Target, Safeway and others is linked to salmonella contamination that made at least 41 people ill in 20 states.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Monday that it has blocked food distribution from the Sunland Inc. peanut butter plant in New Mexico whose products were subject to a wide recall in recent months because of salmonella contamination. The various types of Sunland peanut butter products—sold under several brands by major food retailers, including Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Sprouts, Target and Safeway—had been part of a voluntary recall that began in September and later was expanded to include other nut butters as well as processed nuts and peanuts. Grafton Boy Gets Salmonella; Peanut Butter Recall Expands to Target, Walmart

The boy's family is suing Trader Joe's; they purchased the contaminated product in Shrewsbury.

The voluntary recall of salmonella-tainted peanut and almond butter has expanded beyond Trader Joe’s stores to include more than 70 products sold nationwide. Thirty people across 19 states have reported salmonella food poisoning that was later linked to the contaminated nut butters, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. One of those cases was in Grafton, reported WBZ-TV. Jackson Henson, 4, of South Grafton, became ill with salmonella after eating tainted peanut butter, and his family has filed a lawsuit against Trader Joe's in Shrewsbury, WBZ reported. Stores that carry products named in the recall include Target, Whole Foods, Wal-mart and GNC. The almond and peanut butters were manufactured between May 1 and Sept. …
