Chateau Reopens After Fire

Cigarette responsible, general manager says.

The Chateau reopened today, hours after an outside bark mulch fire reached the front of the Westborough restaurant early Thursday night. A cigarette sparked the fire, General Manager Steve Vallarelli said today. The Italian family restaurant at 95 Turnpike Road (Route 9) was full at the time, he said. "We had to evacuate," Vallarelli said. "The smoke came into the restaurant. So, we immediately called the fire department, got the patrons outside." Chateau officials are "still assessing the damage," Vallerelli said. The Westborough Fire Department received a 911 call from the restaurant at 7:07 p.m. "We couldn't really determine what it was, because the smoke came in so quickly. So, we thought it might be something in the basement. Luckily…

Fire Closes Chateau

The cause is under investigation.

Dozens were evacuated from the Chateau after an outside bark mulch fire reached the front of the Westborough restaurant tonight. Westborough firefighters received a 911 call from the Italian family restaurant at 7:07 p.m. saying there was “smoke in the restaurant and it seemed to be coming from the cellar," Capt. Robert Rand said at the scene, 95 Turnpike Road (Route 9). Firefighters found the smoke, and “found a bark mulch fire outside just by the front door, and it had extended into the wall of the front of the restaurant," Rand said. Dozens of people were at the restaurant at the time, he said. No injuries were reported. The restaurant is "closed until further notice," Rand said. The fire's cause is under investigation, he said.

Good family restaurant. If I have kids to entertain I would go there frequently. I do find it is too much of a mass production food and therefore I do not tend to visit this restaurant.   more ›
