WWII Vet Among Those Lost This Week

A list of the names of Westborough residents who've passed away this week. Service information is included where applicable.

  If you know of a person who was a current or former resident of Westborough before they died, and they are not mentioned here, add them to the list in the comments field. Lois A. (Zona) Martin, 65, a resident of Kingston for 39 years and more recently of Stow, died Jan. 28. She is survived by her husband, Clifford Martin; two sons, Keith Martin and his wife, Lisa, of Westborough, David P. Martin and his wife, Alison, of Hudson; three grandchildren, mother, sister and her husband, brother and his wife and aunt. Relatives and friends are invited to honor Lois between 2 and 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Rand-Harper-Pickering Funeral Home, 62 West Main St. Donations may be made in memory of Lois Martin to Massachusetts General Hospital…

Navy Veteran Buried with Military Honors

John Hawkesworth passed away after a long illness.

Hawkesworth, 87, passed away on Nov. 25 after a long period of failing health. A navy veteran, he was buried with military honors, in St. Luke’s Cemetery. There is a home football game at Westborough High School today at 2:30 p.m. The team hosts Milford High School. Go Rangers! 2. The Bridge of Central Mass is holding its First Annual BridgeFest today. Community Walks to Support The Bridge

New team members are welcome to join "Westborough Pride" in running or walking at BridgeFest 2011.

Parishioners of St. Luke’s Church along with staff and residents of The Bridge House will be taking part in the first annual BridgeFest 2011. The 5K Run/Walk will take place at Beaver Brook Park on Mann Street in Worcester on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition to the run/walk, there will be an arts and crafts, kid activities, pet activities, live entertainment and food. The Bridge is a home for mentally handicapped adult men which was founded by St. Luke’s members many years ago and is located adjacent to the church property. St. Luke’s Church outreach has supported The Bridge for a long time. The youth group has cookouts with The Bridge and joins the men in outings such as bowling and pizza and the annual Christmas party…

Speaker To Discuss 'Miraculous Healing'

Attorney and former chief clerk magistrate of Plymouth District Court scheduled to speak in Westborough.

Information courtesy of the Knights of Columbus.   The Knights of Columbus in Westborough are sponsoring an appearance by Deacon Jack Sullivan on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. at St. Luke’s Church. Sullivan will present Please Cardinal Newman, Help Me to Walk. “Hear this inspiring talk about his painful medical condition so severe it was going to leave him a paralytic and his miraculous healing through the intercession of Cardinal Newman,” the group said in a prepared statement. Sullivan spoke to 17,000 at the Pope’s beatification of Cardinal Newman and also to a group of 1,000 at the Worcester Men’s Conference. He is an ordained deacon, attorney and previously chief clerk magistrate of the Plymouth District Court. The talk is free and open …

World Renowned Naturalist to Speak in Westborough

Peter Alden will discuss the changes in our local environment over the past 150 years.

World renowned naturalist Peter Alden will present Changes in Flora and Fauna from Thoreau’s Time to Today on Monday, June 13, at 7 p.m. in the St. Luke’s Parish Center. The program is open to the public and presented by Westborough Community Land Trust as part of its annual meeting. Alden will discuss how and why the number and variety of plants and animals has changed over the past 150 years.
