Fifth Grade Team Scores Big at Tournament [IMAGE GALLERY]

Congratulations to The Tie-Dye Tiki Team!

  Congratulations to the girls U12 team of Westborough Town Soccer for a second place showing in the NCUP Tournament on June 17! The team, coached by Victor Delgado, Cheryl Goebel and David Sommerville, called itself The Tie-Dye Tiki Team. All fifth graders, the girls went undefeated in the fall. The team was the only completely fifth grade team in its division to qualify for the Nashoba League NCUP Tournament in the spring. Strong passing and ball control skills helped propel the team to a successful season. Strong goal keeping kept the team in the game during tight competitive matches. The Tie-Dye Tiki Team played three games in the tournament on June 16, where it won 2 and tied 1 — and qualified for the championship game. The final was …

Team Ends Season As Tournament Champs [IMAGE GALLERY]

Congratulations to this talented group of athletes!

  Congratulations to the girls high school team of Westborough Town Soccer for taking the championship of the NCUP Tournament on June 17! In the Girls High School Division Nashoba Valley Youth Soccer League, Westborough had 21 girls in 8th through 11th grades competing. The team went 5-1-2 during the spring season and advanced to the NCUP tournament as one of the top four out of eleven teams in the age group. On Saturday, June 16, the team was undefeated in three round robin games. The girls advanced to the finals on Sunday, June 17 to defeat Maynard. The team was coached by Sharon Connors and Leah Hally. Soccer Team Competes With Champions

Westborough players compete with the best in the state.

  Westborough's 12-year old boys' soccer team recently competed in the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions held in Lancaster. The tournament is a statewide event featuring twelve boys and twelve girls teams, each a champion of their respective soccer league in the state of Massachusetts.   The boys earned a tournament spot by beating Groton-Dunstable 3-0 in a playoff game to win the Nashoba Valley Youth Soccer League championship. The boys won their first two games of the tournament by beating Pittsfield and Worcester, before falling to Newton United. Season Finale Takes Place at Target Fields

The Saturday festivities include two games and a cookout.

  On Saturday, June 16, Westborough Little League presents the championship game for the 2012 Major League season. Festivities include a pre-game featuring the graduating 12-year-old players and a cookout, all open to the public at the Target Fields. The championship league game starts at 7 p.m. and features the Shell and Percy’s teams. If Percy’s wins the Saturday competition, the team takes the championship trophy. If Shell wins, the series extends to a final game on Sunday, June 17 at 4 p.m. The Little League program ends for players who are 12-years-old. A final game for graduate players is planned for 4 p.m. on Saturday. A trophy presentation for the players will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Otey Field. Following the game, a cookout with …

Athlete of the Week

WHS Grad Scores Big in Women's Rowing at Ohio State

The athlete was awarded a silver medal at the 2012 NCAA championships.

  Samantha Fowle of Westborough, a member of the Ohio State Women’s Rowing Team, earned a silver medal in the 2012 NCAA Division I Rowing Championships in West Windsor, NJ on May 27. She was also named to the 2012 Academic All Big Ten. The Ohio State team placed fifth overall, propelled by a gold showing by the First Varsity Four and a silver for the Second Varsity Eight. Fowle’s team, the Second Varsity Eight, was undefeated during its regular season, missing the NCAA title by just 1.9 seconds. Youth Soccer Announces Tryout Schedule

Anyone new to the program is asked to bring a birth certificate to registration.

  Westborough Youth Soccer Association (WYSA) announced the schedule of 2012 fall and spring tryouts for boys and girls. Tryouts are open to all Westborough residents. Registration Open for Women's Softball

The season begins on May 31.

  Registration is open for the Westborough Recreation Deartment women’s softball league. Play is open to all Westborough residents who are at least 16-years-old. There are a limited number of spots for nonresidents. The season runs from May 31 to August 16. Games will be played at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Haskell Street field. Makeup games will be scheduled on Wednesdays. The cost for the season is $40. Registration forms and information can be found on the department website. 5 Records Set at Spring Festival 5K

The tenth annual race had over 130 participants.

  Five records were set at the Westborough Spring Festival 5K race on Sunday, May 6, according to coolrunning.com. The tenth annual contest, presented by the Rotary Club of Westborough and starting at Westborough High School, attracted over 132 runners from around the region.
