5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 16

There is a free clothing giveaway in Westborough today.

  Each morning, Westborough Patch presents “5 Things You Need to Know,” a collection of announcements, events, reminders and odd little ditties to help you organize your day. What will you be doing today?   1. There is a free clothing giveaway at Chapel of the Cross, 160 Flanders Rd., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. 2. The Tree Canopy Walkway at the EcoTarium will open for the summer daily from June 26 to Aug. 19. Guided tree canopy walkway sessions start on the half hour from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturday and from 12:30 to 4 p.m. on Sundays. The EcoTarium is closed on Mondays. Dessert Fundraiser to Help Fight Against Breast Cancer

The 13th annual Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer event includes two Westborough restaurants.

Information courtesy of Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer.   During the week leading up to Mother’s Day, May 7 through May 13, more than 250 restaurants, bakeries, cafés, chocolate and ice cream shops throughout Massachusetts will participate in Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer, including The Bakery at Roche Brothers and Not Your Average Joe's in Westborough. These Westborough establishments will create a unique dessert to include on the menu. Desserts start at $3 and proceeds will benefit breast cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Bakes for Breast Cancer, Inc., a newly formed nonprofit breast cancer organization dedicated to making a difference in the fight against breast cancer.  For more information, a list of …

Boy Vandalizes Ted's By Defecating on Floor

Police order him to scoop his poop.

  A 16-year-old Townsend boy made a mess of his Saturday afternoon in Westborough, and he was made to clean it up. The boy, accompanied by his 15- and 13-year-old cousins, walked into the bathroom of Ted’s Montana Grill at Bay State Commons and defecated on the floor of the bathroom.   “Our family was coming in for lunch when three boys stepped out laughing hysterically and asking each other if they had any [expletive] on their clothes and sharing how bad things were there,” said a customer. “These three boys came in the restaurant, seems like they didn't order anything but they went into the men's bathrooms and trashed it. Triathlon Returns to Lake Chauncy Aug. 14

Registration is open to both experienced and novice competitors.

Those experienced and new to triathlons are welcome to register for the 2nd annual Westborough Sprint Triathlon taking place on Sunday, Aug. 14. The event includes a quarter-mile swim in Lake Chauncy, 13.9 mile bike course and a 3 mile run through the scenic trails adjacent to the lake. Gerry Gross, co-chairman of the event, said that over 210 athletes are now registered, which is double the number from last year. He anticipates that the number will reach close to 500 by the time the competition begins. The triathlon kicks off at the Westborough State Hospital on Lyman Street at 8 a.m. In addition to athletes, organizers are also looking for volunteers to help at the event.
