5 Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 8

The Westborough High School Rangers swim team is taking on Algonquin at the YMCA today. Stop by and shout, "Go Rangers!"

  Each morning, Westborough Patch presents “5 Things You Need to Know,” a collection of announcements, events and reminders to help you organize your day.   1. The Westborough High School Rangers varsity swim team will take on the Algonquin Regional High School team today at 5 p.m. at the YMCA, 4 Valente Dr. The meet is free and open to the public. If you are heading over for a workout anyway, stop in and shout, "Go Rangers!" 2. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics announced this week that the national unemployment rate fell to 8.5 percent in December, its lowest level in nearly three years. The economy added 200,000 jobs over the month and figures show the private sector added 1.9 million new jobs over the past 12 months.  3. Westborough …

The Boston Harbor waters were murky on this day in 1773.

  Each morning, Westborough Patch presents “5 Things You Need to Know,” a collection of announcements, events and reminders to help you organize your day.   1. It could be looked at as Occupy Boston Harbor. On this date in 1773, the infamous Boston Tea Party took place. Protestors reportedly tossed nearly 350 chests of tea in the harbor after climbing aboard a British ship. 2. The Westborough High School Rangers girls’ varsity basketball team hosts Shrewsbury at 7 p.m. The game is at the high school, 90 West Main St. It is free and open to the public. Go Rangers! 3. An Alanon meeting is scheduled to take place at 7:30 p.m. at St. Luke the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 70 West Main St. The meeting will be held in the parish center hall…

The game started under cold, sunny skies in Northborough. After the first quarter, Rangers lead, 7-0. Go Rangers! At the half, the Rangers lead the Tomahawks, 10-6. Touchdown Algonquin with 6:58 left in third quarter. Tomahawks take the lead, 12-10. With 3:42 left in the third quarter, the Rangers just scored a touchdown. It's now 18-12, Westborough. Rangers and Tomahawks Well Matched for Game

Tickets are on sale for half price in the Westborough High School office this week.

  If you are a fan of the annual Westborough/Algonquin Thanksgiving football game, you will be happy to know the teams are well matched this year. Both are 1-9-0 going into this final game of the season. Who will break such a memorable tie? Go Rangers! Tickets are on sale now in the Westborough High School office for $5. They are $10 at the gate on Thursday morning. Grab friends, family, neighbors and grandparents and enjoy a free and fun afternoon of Rangers athletics.

Oh, we could have asked you to be an athletic supporter, but that joke is old. So instead, we will ask you to be a Rangers supporter and have fun at the same time. Here are 5 ways to show our Westborough High School Rangers some love this week: Tuesday, Oct. 18, 4 p.m.: Varsity boys soccer hosts Hudson High school. Game takes place on the Westborough High School football field. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 5:15 p.m.: Varsity girls volleyball welcomes North Middlesex Regional High School. The game will be in the school gym. Friday, Oct. 21, 4 p.m.: Boys varsity soccer plays Ludlow. The game will take place on the high school football field. It was an event-filled day for Westborough.

A light breeze, sunshine and just a touch of rainfall filled the skies for Homecoming Weekend at Westborough High School. Students held a dance in the gym on Friday night, eight alums were inducted into the school Athletic Hall of Fame at a Saturday brunch, and a parade and festival preceeded the 2 p.m. home football game on Saturday afternoon. The Westborough High School Rangers football team fell to Shrewsbury, 25-14.
