Westborough Teen Published in Poetry Magazine

Katie O'Hara says her poem was inspired by trips to the beach.

When Katie O'Hara was challenged to write a poem for a poetry contest she could think of no better topic than the beach. O'Hara, a ninth grader at Westborough High School, had her poem The Beach at Night chosen for inclusion in the magazine VOYA (Voices of Youth Advocates) recently. The poem was written while she was an eighth-grader in Mrs. Lamothe's class at the Gibbons Middle School. "In class, we learned how to use sensory images, different types of poems, rhythmic dictation, and more," O'Hara said. " We also looked at many poetry books for inspiration as well as ideas for our own poems. My eighth grade teacher, Mrs. Lamothe, provided these books with the help of the librarian, Mrs. Kimball."
