Food Pantry to Celebrate 25 Years

Newly retired Westborough firefighter Phil Kittredge is the food pantry's executive director.

On Jan. 1, Phil Kittredge served the final shift of his 43-year career on the Westborough Fire Department. Next week, Kittredge and the community will celebrate the Westborough Food Pantry's 25 years of service to Westborough. Kittredge is executive director of the food pantry, which will hold its 25th anniversary open house from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 12 in the Forbes Community House, 9 East Main St. Kittredge is in his third year leading the pantry.

Longtime Firefighter Begins Year With Final Shift

Capt. Phil Kittredge retires after his shift ends, ending 43 years on the Westborough Fire Department.

Phil Kittredge went to the Westborough Fire Station this morning because “somewhere along the line, you get the bug.” After Wednesday morning, when his final shift ends, Kittredge anticipates feeling “a little weird.” Because his 43-year career with the Westborough Fire Department will be over. Kittredge is retiring, four decades after joining the department as a volunteer call firefighter in his hometown. “This was my next scheduled day to work. It’s just the way the schedule worked out,” the captain said today, noting he also worked Christmas Eve. “I don’t think it’s as common anymore for somebody to work their entire career for one company. Marshals Investigating Arson Attempt at Spectrum

Investigators were at the scene for about five hours on Wednesday evening.

The state Fire Marshal’s office is investigating an arson attempt at Spectrum Health Services, 155 Oak St. Just before 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, Westborough Fire Department was called to the scene of a fire on the exterior of the building. “The fire was extinguished by the staff before we got there,” Westborough Fire Captain Phil Kittredge told Westborough Patch. “The Fire Marshals were there until about 11 last night. They are still investigating.” "It was discovered by clients," said Westborough Police Chief Alan Gordon. "There is some charring to the outside of the building. It appears to be intentional."
