Discover Treasures at The Glass Heron

For a complete treasure hunt, take an afternoon and stroll the rotary and sides streets for a host of unique shops and galleries.

Downtown Westborough is a collection of interesting local shops. Take an afternoon and stroll through the rotary and side streets and see what treasures wait for you. Among our favorite stops is The Glass Heron. Wedged between the two entrances of the Westboro Package Store, The Glass Heron has been set like a cornerstone on the rotary for 20 years. Deborah Limanek, owner of this unique stained glass gift shop told Westborough Patch, "In my opinion, The Glass Heron is the heart of downtown Westborough." Limanek chose the name from her fascination with herons. "I first saw a heron in the 1970s when one of these huge birds flew over my car. I thought that it was a pterodactyl," she said. "Herons are everywhere in my life. I believe in animal…

Travel Back in Time with the Wednesday Patch Passport and discover the history of Westborough.

The rich history of Westborough comes alive in two distinct local museums of artifacts, the Westborough Historical Commission and the Westborough Historical Society. Each houses a collection of photos and items that tell the story of nearly 300 years of Westborough as an established town in the commonwealth. Spend an hour browsing either of these collections and you will be transported through time, from archeological finds to early photos. People from 5 to 105 will find something to learn by looking through the collections and imagining what life was like in early Westborough.   Westborough Historical Commission Westborough Historical Society   Follow us on Facebook and Twitter to keep up to date on the latest Westborough news, or simply …

Kid-Friendly Fun: Green Thumb, Harvey's

Take advantage of time with your kids and get out and enjoy these hot spots. Your Patch Passport gives you options for great local spots for kid-friendly fun.

Westborough is packed with family fun, so narrowing the choices was a bit of a challenge. However, we found two destinations worth an afternoon excursion with the kids. Both are filled with interesting things to see and do for all ages.   The Green Thumb, 185 Turnpke Rd. Located on Route 9 in Westborough, The Green Thumb has something for everyone. Originally founded as a greenhouse in 1950, the location has undergone numerous renovations making it the family fun destination it is today. From a petting zoo to an 18-hole miniature golf course to kids play land, the entire family will be entertained.   Beyond the entertainment, patrons will enjoy an extensive garden center, seasonal produce, gifts, baked goods and delicious ice cream. Hidden Gem: Charm Bracelet Trails

Discover a Hidden Gem, or should we say "charm," in Westborough that you may have driven by and never known it existed. Or maybe you have no visited this interesting spot in years. Take a little trip with Patch…we’ll show you the way.

We had a lot of places to consider before selecting our Hidden Gem. But when we put the list together, few items stood out as beautifully as the Westborough Charm Bracelet Trail System. Since 2000, work has been underway to connect a series of trails that wind and weave through some of the most scenic land in town. In addition to over 20 miles of trail that graces land around Westborough, additional trails have been developed to connect to open space and recreation areas within the community. Others extend to surrounding communities. Plan a daylong hike or a series of short excursions. According to the website, there are 10-mile and 7-mile end-to-end hikes available that some have used to train for walking the Appalachian Trail. Throughout…

A mostly hidden Westborough Gem is Cedar Swamp Pond. It isn't easy to get to directly, but in the fall, winter, and early spring you can see it from the top of Newton's hill near the water tank. On a sunny day, it is truly a gem. If you don't feel like walking, look for it on Google Maps. Its much prettier in person.   more ›
