Appalachian Adventure: One Man's Trail Tales

Roger “Hammer” Tetreault shared AT travels, wisdom and tips at a Westborough Public Library presentation.

When Roger “Hammer” Tetreault of Boxborough stepped onto the Appalachian Trailhead at Springer Mountain, Georgia on March 25, 2008, he began a 5 ½ month, 2,176-mile journey by foot that would forever change his life. The 63-year-old carpenter chronicled his adventures on the Appalachian Trail, or “AT” with a fascinating multimedia presentation that invites audiences to step onto the famous trail with him from Georgia to Maine. “It was the most amazing experience of my entire life,” he said to a packed crowd at the Westborough Public Library  Tuesday evening, July 19. The presentation was part of the library's adult summer reading program, Novel Destinations. Library Program Presents Appalachian Trail Hiker

As part of the summer "Novel Destinations" program, the Westborough Public Library will feature a Massachusetts man who hiked the Appalachian Trail.

Hiking the Appalachian Trail: An Evening with Roger “Hammer” Tetreault will be held at the Westborough Public Library on Tuesday, July 19, at 7 p.m., as part of the library’s Adult Summer Reading program, Novel Destinations. Tetreault of Boxborough took the phrase “take a hike” literally when he decided to walk the 2,176.4 miles of the Appalachian Trail. A carpenter by trade, Tetreault is a backpacking and hiking enthusiast. After ten years of hiking the local terrain he decided early in 2008 to hike the Appalachian Trail. It took Tetreault almost six months to hike from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine. He hiked from March 25 until September 7. Climber Shares Mt. Everest Summit Stories at Library

Craig John helped kick-off “Novel Destinations” and impressed attendees with his worldwide climbing experiences.

It may have been the first day of summer and nearly eighty degrees outside, but there was plenty of snow and ice on display in the meeting room of the Westborough Public Library.    On Tuesday, June 21, professional mountain guide Craig John transported an audience of adults and children on a journey to the world’s highest mountain peaks. The voyage concluded at the summit of Mt. Everest. Donna Martel, adult services librarian, told Westborough Patch, “We thought he was the perfect fit with the Novel Destinations adult summer reading program,” adding that “his presentation will offer residents an opportunity to travel somewhere they may never have the opportunity to go.” John, who has been guiding since 1987, began his two-hour multimedia …

He is articulate, humorous, very knowledgeable about the countries of Nepal & Tibet, as well as insightful & well experienced in the fascinating lore of mountaineering. Adult Reading Program Offers Stay-at-Home Travel

The Westborough Public Library presents its first adult summer reading program, “Novel Destinations.”

The library summer reading program, long considered an event for children, is now available for adults. Westborough Public Library begins ts first adult summer reading program, Novel Destinations, on Wednesday, June 22. According to a press release from the Westborough Public Library, “Through the library, patrons can travel anywhere this summer. Watch a foreign film, read an international mystery, relax with music from around the world, learn travel tips or listen to audio books that take you away!” The program is open to adults ages 18 and over.
