NSTAR Fixes Late-Night Gas Leak

The incident happened in a catch basin in front of a Hopkinton Road home.

"A concentration of gas in a catch basin on the side of the road" in front of 58 Hopkinton Road prompted Westborough firefighters and NSTAR crews to check the adjacent homes for gas late Sunday night, fire Capt. Joe Lawrence said this morning. None of the homes were evacuated, Lawrence said. No detectable odors were found, he added. "Someone in the neighborhood out walking their dogs noticed the odor" from the catch basin, in front of a home, and called the Westborough Fire Department at 11:18 p.m., Lawrence said. Firefighters notified NSTAR. NSTAR crews worked on the matter this morning, Lawrence said.

TELL US: Did NStar, National Grid Perform Well During Hurricane Sandy?

The two utility companies have had complaints in recent storms—Hurricane Irene and Snowtober—but say they stepped it up for Sandy.

Hurricane Sandy blew out of the region earlier this week, but not without causing massive power outages, some of which have yet to be fixed.  Both National Grid and NStar say they did a better, faster job in fixing power outages than in previous storms, according to WBUR. Not everyone agrees, however. According to the story, Newton Mayor Setti Warren said NStar was faster, but there's still work to be done. Gov. Deval Patrick also told WBUR the companies worked faster, but said a "total victory" can't be declared. Do you agree? Have they improved since the last storm? Or is there still work to be done? Tell us in the comments.

Zippity Do Dog on Speen St is still out and I was told they would be working on it this am. Well the sun has gone down and no power. I will call Friday and hope to be up and running Monday. After reading Tastings, maybe I won't be up Monday. A drag running a small business that is dependent on electricity.   more ›
