5 Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 15

Westborough High School senior Laura Hart will be featured on NPR Radio today.

   Each morning, Westborough Patch presents “5 Things You Need to Know,” a collection of announcements, events and reminders to help you organize your day.   1. Westborough High School senior Laura Hart can be heard on the radio today singing with the Boston Children’s Chorus. NPR “From the Top” program, featuring the chorus, will air today on WCFR 88.5 FM at 3 p.m. The chorus sang four numbers for a special celebration program honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King.   2. North Star Youth Forum, 15 Bridle Lane, offers public skating today from noon to 1 p.m. Cost is $5. Open to the public. 3. Local Couple Featured on NPR

Barry and Beth Hall surprised to learn NPR promoted their medieval holiday music CD.

Barry and Beth Hall met over twenty years ago while touring Poland with a string orchestra. Beth recalls that "music brought us together." The pair became involved in medieval renaissance music when they lived in San Francisco, shortly after they were married. "The CD started as a musical Christmas card," Barry says, telling Westborough Patch that throughout the 80's the pair began an annual tradition of recording a medieval holiday song on cassette to send to friends instead of a greeting card.  After years of recording individual songs, the Halls decided to make a compilation CD. They perform all of the vocals on the CD and also play various instruments including violin, viola, vielle and many others.
