Westborough Man Injured in Fatal Two-Car Crash in Middleborough

The accident happened late Thursday night on Interstate 495.

A two-car crash on Interstate 495 in Middleborough killed a Carver man and injured the other driver, of Westborough, late Thursday night. The 51-year-old Westborough resident was taken to Tobey Hospital in Wareham with non-life threatening injuries stemming from the 11:10 p.m. accident on I-495 southbound, north of Exit 2, state police said in a press release today. State police did not identify him. The other driver, George Victoria, 50, of Carver was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said. Trooper Adam LeBlanc's preliminary investigation indicates that both Victoria and the Westborough man were driving south "when, for reasons still under investigation," the 2004 Ford F-250 driven by Victoria went off the highway and struck a …

Police Conduct Sobriety Checkpoints This Weekend

  The Massachusetts State Police plan to conduct sobriety checkpoints in Worcester County on Saturday, June 9 into Sunday, June 10. "The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways," said Colonel Marian J. McGovern, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, in a press release. "It will be operated during varied hours, the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety."   The Massachusetts State Police will be in Worcester County Saturday evening conducting sobriety checkpoints on public roadways. The checkpoints will be in place late evening April 21 into the early morning hours of Sunday, April 22. Motorists can expect to be randomly stopped at checkpoints on state roadways during these hours and given sobriety tests by state and local police officers. I am glad to see that the police have finally incorporated a way to tell if a person is driving impaired by a different substance than alcohol (which is bad enough). If we understands alcoholism and drug addiction, then we know that it is a disease of denial, at the core, and that includes denial of being intoxicated. Cullen, 42, of 212 Milk St., Westborough, was summonsed to court on a complaint Feb. 22 by Northborough police on charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle. The court magistrate continued the case to May 24.   Massachusetts State Police (MSP) will implement sobriety checkpoints Friday, April 6 and Saturday, April 7 in Worcester County, Colonel Marian J. McGovern, superintendent of the MSP, announced. The goal of the program is to educate motorists and increase their awareness of the importance of detecting and removing drivers who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, she said. The checkpoints will be operated during varied hours and the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, she said. Judge Vito Virzi continued the case to March 19. Wednesday, March 21 Raymond Hawkins, 20, of 114 Camden St. Apt. 2, Boston, was summonsed to court on a complaint Jan. 12 by MSP in Westborough and charged with driving too close on the Mass Pike and leaving the scene of an accident. Westborough Woman Charged in Missing Man Case

A search of Motel 6 in Northborough on Tuesday leads police to arrest two suspects in connection with the disappearance of a Worcester man.

  After a search that led police to Motel 6 in Northborough on Tuesday, two people have been arrested in connection with the disappearance of a Worcester man, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. Lara Corey, 22, of 27 Boston Turnpike Road, Westborough and James Howze, 19, of 37 Harvard Ave., Providence, RI, were arrested in Colonie, NY, Wednesday night on fugitive from justice charges. In Massachusetts, Howze faces charges of assault and battery with a deadly weapon (knife) and larceny of a motor vehicle, and Corey is charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, said the district attorney's office. The victim, Joseph P. Webster, 19, of 104 Brattle St., Worcester, was reported missing on March 14 by his family. He…

Designated sober drivers are a good thing.

  St. Patrick’s Day parties will kick in on Saturday night, which can spell trouble on the roadways. The Massachusetts State Police (MSP) announced sobriety checkpoints in the area and the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) is cautioning St. Patrick’s Day revelers to plan a safe ride on Saturday night. “Buzzed driving is drunk driving,” the group said in a press statement. “Driving buzzed on the holiday could cost you a pot of leprechaun’s gold – like up to $10,000 in legal fees, court costs, and increased insurance rates.” The MSP announced that sobriety checkpoints will set up in Middlesex County from Saturday, March 17 into Sunday, March 18. “The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen …
