Bail Set for Woman Charged in Connection With Lizzi Marriott Murder

Kathryn McDonough, 19, was arrested on Christmas Eve.

Appearing by video in Derry District Court on Wednesday, a Portsmouth woman arrested during the investigation into the disappearance and murder of Elizabeth 'Lizzi' Marriott never said a word as her bail was set at $35,000. According to defense attorney Ryan Russman, Kathryn McDonough, 19, of McKinley Road was arrested on Christmas Eve as an attempt by the state to send a message to her about the seriousness of the charges. McDonough is facing two felonies—Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution and Conspiracy to Commit Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution. New Hampshire assistant attorney general Peter Hinckley said there was no tactical or strategic reasoning behind the arrest. According to investigators, McDonough gave a "false alibi" …

NH AG: Mazzaglia Will Be Prosecuted With or Without Marriott's Body

Assistant Attorney General Peter Hinckley said the state is prepared to take second-degree murder case to grand jury with evidence it already has.

New Hampshire state prosecutors say they are prepared to move forward with their second-degree murder case against Seth Mazzaglia regardless if the body of his alleged murder victim, Lizzi Marriott, 19, of Westborough, is ever found. Assistant Attorney General Peter Hinckley, one of the prosecutors assigned to the case, said New Hampshire Marine Patrol boats continue to comb the waters of the Piscataqua River for any trace of Marriott's body in the Portsmouth area more than two months after Mazzaglia, 30, of Dover, N.H., was charged with strangling the University of New Hampshire student. But regardless if authorities ever recover Marriott's body, Hinckley said state prosecutors already have enough evidence to proceed with their case …

Women's Personal Safety Session News Spreading 'Like Lightning'

Westborough resident was inspired by being mugged, and Lizzi Marriott tragedy, to bring the program here.

Alisa Stone has never forgotten being mugged about 15 years ago. “I was lucky, because my mugging was solely around my purse. Others aren’t so lucky. So, while I was hoping I wouldn’t be in any physical harm,  and that was the case, you never stop reliving those moments,” Stone, now of Westborough, says. “I always felt fortunate coming out of that.” An “Empower The Girls We Love: Personal Safety Training 101” program will be offered to Westborough-area women by SAM Training LLC at Westborough’s Tatnuck Bookseller on Jan. 4 and Jan. 5. There is a $35 fee. "Proceeds above the costs to produce the event will be donated to the Marriott Family Fund," according to SAM Training's website. Stone arranged for it. Bracelets Remind Community of Lizzi's Light

The Westborough High School Student Council is selling the bracelets for $2.

Lizzi Marriott “had a personality that could light up the room,” Westborough High School junior Katie Heffernan says. A new Westborough High Student Council fundraiser has people wearing reminders of Lizzi Marriott’s personality, on their wrists. The proceeds from “The Lizzi Light” bracelets are going toward a Lizzi Marriott scholarship fund being run by the family. The students began selling the bracelets for $2 the Monday before Thanksgiving, and sold them during the Thanksgiving football game, junior Kerry Chen says. Lizzi Marriott graduated from Westborough High in 2011. The idea for the bracelets arose during a student council brainstorming session, Heffernan says. “We figured out that that’s the best way to do it, because you can see…

Divers Search River for Lizzi Marriott's Body

Portsmouth Police closed down the Peirce Island Road before the dog park to allow NH Fish and Game divers to assist the search for the Westborough woman.

Peirce Island Road has been shut down just before the dog park as divers from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department search for the body of Lizzi Marriott of Westborough. NH Fish and Game Major Kevin Jordan said his agency has been working with NH Marine Patrol, State Police and the Coast Guard since the search for the 19-year-old UNH student began on Oct. 12. But Jordan said Tuesday marked the first time that Fish and Game divers were used. Jordan could not say if NH Fish and Game divers will be requested by the New Hampshire Attorney General's office to return to Peirce Island. A State Police helicopter could also be seen flying over the island to assist the ongoing search effort, which is in its 13th day. New Hampshire Associate …

NH Associate Attorney General Jane Young said FBI aircraft will be used this week every other day to provide the Coast Guard and New Hampshire Marine Patrol crews with an aerial component to help locate the body of the 19-year-old University of New Hampshire student who police say was murdered by Seth Mazzaglia, 29, of Dover, N.H. in his apartment on Oct. 9. Young said Monday morning a State Police helicopter will be used on the days when the FBI aircraft is not in use and the search area now includes Peirce Island, Portsmouth Harbor and the coastline down to …
