UPDATE, June 18, 2012, 2:17 p.m. — A spokesman for the MBTA sent an email to Westborough Patch informing that the MBTA Gold Star memorial train is scheduled to roll through the Westborough commuter rail station at 5:12 p.m. The email also contained an apology for any inconvenience from the June 13 scheduled run, which was cancelled at the last minute due to technical problems. June 13, 2012, 2 p.m. — The MBTA Gold Star memorial train will run through Westborough and stop at the Westborough commuter rail station at 5:03 and 6:32 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13. The train is red, white and blue and covered in over 150 gold stars, each with the name of a Massachusetts serviceman or woman who lost his or her life in the Iraq or Afghanistan …

Westborough’s May 28 Memorial Day Parade will honor the end of the war in Iraq. Special emphasis will be placed on recognizing those veterans of Westborough who have participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Iraq and Afghanistan veterans are invited to join all veterans and soldiers who have served our country to participate, march or ride in the Memorial Day activities. Plan on being at VFW Post 9013 on Milk Street at 8 a.m. on Monday, May 28. How do you feel about the decision to pull troops from Iraq?
With Veterans Day just a week away, the country is preparing to welcome home an estimated 40,000 US servicemen and women serving in Iraq. On Oct. 21, President Barack Obama announced the end to the long and costly war in that part of the Middle East, saying that the troops will be home by the end of the year. "After nearly nine years, America's war in Iraq will be over," he announced. “Personally, I’m glad they are coming home,” said Westborough Veterans Agent George Perry. “But there is a possibility that it is bad. I mean, Iran is sitting there waiting to jump into Iraq.” Critics of the pullout share that opinion, many saying that the US is handing Iraq over to Iran and leaving open the possibility that US troops may have to return. …

Thanks...all not well at MBTA. Budget crisis + they cannot seem to get the company they spent a zillion on to build the rail cars which should have started rolling off the line pretty soon. The company had never built cars like this before but according to the Globe it was 'well wired' in Massachusetts [hmm...I wonder what that means? :-) ] and put in a lower bid than more reliable companies.
