Expanding Route 9 to three lanes, both ways, between Computer Drive in Westborough and Deerfoot Road in Southborough would help address traffic congestion and safety issues at the Interstate 495 interchange, a new state transportation study says. The recommendation is among several that Massachusetts Department of Transportation Project Manager Calli Cenizal presented to the Westborough Planning Board last Tuesday night. MassDOT has reviewed the overcrowded interchange and has presented its findings to the Hopkinton Board of Selectmen.
For hundreds of commuters headed in to Boston each morning, the Interstate 495-Route 90 interchange creates a serious problem, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s latest findings. Changes are near, state transportation officials say. Last year, Congressman Jim McGovern (D-Worcester) secured funding to study the backup of traffic on I-495, Route 90 and Route 9. An Acton teenager was injured in the crash.
A rollover crash on Interstate 495 South in Southborough injured an Acton teenager this morning. Westborough and Southborough firefighters responded to the 6:20 a.m. crash at Exit 23C, state police said. The victim was driving a 2004 Honda Odyssey, state police said. She was taken to Marlborough Hospital for treatment.

A two-car accident on Interstate 495 South at Route 9 in Westborough this morning caused no injuries, State Police said. A 1995 Mazda Protege was towed after the crash, which was reported at 8:20 a.m., State Police said. A 2011 Ford F150 also was involved.

State police continue investigating a two-car crash on Interstate 495 in Middleborough that killed a Carver man and injured a Westborough man. State police said today they're not identifying the 51-year-old Westborough resident because they still looking into the accident. The man was taken to Tobey Hospital in Wareham with non-life threatening injuries stemming from the 11:10 p.m. Thursday accident on I-495 southbound, north of Exit 2. The other driver, George Victoria, 50, of Carver was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.
