5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 27

Summer whale watching program available to students next week.

  Each morning, Westborough Patch presents “5 Things You Need to Know,” a collection of announcements, events, reminders and odd little ditties to help you organize your day. What will you be doing today?   1. The Hot Summer Nights program, for students entering grades 6 to 10, features a whale watching trip on Wednesday, July 11 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. A bus will pick up and drop off students at Gibbons Middle School. The cost for the day is $20. For information or to register, call 508-366-3090. 2. The Rotary Club of Westborough holds its weekly meeting at The Chateau restaurant at noon. What will you be doing today?   1. The Westborough Public Library presents a free movie for adults today at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.What movie, you ask? Apparently, the library can’t tell us due to licensing. But, here’s the deal: It stars Glenn Close who plays a woman passing as a man in order to work and survive in 19th century Ireland. Hot Summer Nights Announces Summer Programs

Kids in grades 6 through 10 will enjoy a variety of summer outings.

  Hot Summer Nights is now in its 16th year! The summer program is designed for kids going into grades 6 through 10. Coordinated by Westborough’s own Lizzy Sricharoenchaikit, many of the programs are offered at little to no cost. No one will be refused participation due to an inability to pay. Hot Summer Nights Program Kicks Off Tuesday

The opening event includes ice cream!

Westborough Youth & Family Services kicks off its 2012 Hot Summer Nights (HSN) program with a free Ice Cream Giveaway on Tuesday, June 19at 11:15 a.m. outside the Forbes Municipal Building, 45 West Main St. At the same time, there will also be a Teen Summer Reading Book Giveaway at the Westborough Public Library next door. HSN is a summer activities program organized for kids in grades 6 through10 (ages 10 to 16), hosting a number of events this summer including: 3on3 Basketball on Friday, June 22: 6 to 9 p.m. at Gibbons Middle School gymnasium. This event is free. Registration required.  There will be a Craft Night on Monday, July 9: 6 to 8 p.m. at the Forbes Municipal Building auditorium. The cost is $5. Registration forms can be found …

Westborough kids are heading to Shrewsbury for some extreme bowling tomorrow evening.

Each morning, Westborough Patch presents “5 Things You Need to Know,” a collection of announcements, events and reminders to help you organize your day. 1. The Hot Summer Nights program is heading out for extreme bowling tomorrow night. From 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 1, the group will head to AMF Town and Country Bowl in Shrewsbury. Tickets are $12 and include shoe rental, pizza, soda and 2 hours of extreme bowling. The program is for kids in grades 6 to 10. Kids in grades 6 to 10 can explore the Charm Bracelet together at an upcoming Hot Summer Nights program.

Each morning, Westborough Patch presents “5 Things You Need to Know,” a collection of announcements, events and reminders to help you organize your day. 1. The Hot Summer Nights program presents Nature Safari on the Charm Bracelet Trail on Saturday, July 30 from 10 a.m. to noon. Meet at Mill Pond School and prepare for a walk along a path that will pass glacial rock formations and prehistoric archeological sites dating back 8,000 years. This program is for kids in grades 6 to 10. Disposable cameras will be available for purchase of $5. 2.
