The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood watch for portions of central Massachusetts, including Worcester County and the Westborough area, from 8 p.m Friday through Saturday morning. “A prolonged period of rain with embedded heavier showers and isolated thunderstorms is anticipated. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are expected with locally heavier amounts likely. The heaviest rainfall area will be in western and central Massachusetts,” reported the NWS. Flooding of poor drainage areas is possible, along with potential flooding impacts to small streams and creeks. A flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Taunton has issued a flood watch for Friday evening into Saturday evening for an expansive area of Massachusetts, including Worcester County. At 4:30 this afternoon, the NWS reported the watch to be in effect from 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23 until 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24. “A prolonged period of rain with embedded heavier showers and isolated thunderstorms is anticipated,” read a statement from NWS. The forecast calls for 1 to 3 inches of rain, with locally heavier amounts possible. Sunday, March 6, 3:55 p.m. - The National Weather Service in Boston has issued a flood watch for Massachusetts, including the Westborough area. The watch remains in effect through Monday morning. Rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches are expected in western Massachusetts and 1 to 1.5 inches in parts of eastern Massachusetts. The heaviest rainfall will occur late today through midnight for western New England, shifting to eastern New England after 10 p.m. According to the statement by the National Weather Service, unseasonably mild temperatures combined with the heavy rainfall will promote rapid snow melt with sharp rises on area rivers and streams through Monday. Poor drainage flooding is likely along with flooding on some rivers and streams.

The National Weather Service Issued a Flood Watch and a High Wind Watch today because of storm tomorrow.
Heavy rains falling on top of snow banks could cause flooding in the Watertown area on Friday, the National Weather Service warns. A flood watch has been issued for Friday due to a storm expected to drop up to two inches of precipitation on the region. A high wind watch was also issued with a forecast of 30 to 40 mph winds and gusts to 60 mph. Forecasters expect the storm to start late Thursday night and turn to rain by Friday morning. A total of one to two inches of rain is expected to fall during the storm. The heaviest rain will likely hit mid-morning on Friday and will continue through Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
