Sam Mayo Earns Eagle Scout

His project involved clearing the Bowman Conservation Area.

Westborough Boy Scout Troop 100 awarded the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout to Samuel Mayo on June 16. The ceremony was held at the Evangelical Congregational Church of Westborough, which is the chartering organization for Troop 100. The rank of Eagle, Scouting’s highest rank, is recognized throughout the world as an especially significant achievement.   Mayo crossed over to Boy Scouts in 2005 from Cub Scout Pack 4 of Westborough where he earned the Arrow of Light Award. As a Boy Scout, Mayo earned 36 merit badges. He has held important leadership positions for Troop 100 including Patrol Leader, Troop Guide and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. Sam has also been an active camper on monthly trips in the region as well as national adventure …

New Eagle Scout is One of Youngest in Troop's History

Cooper Shumway, of Westborough, will be awarded the Eagle Scout rank on June 2.

Westborough Boy Scout Troop 100 will award the rank of Eagle Scout to Cooper Shumway on Saturday, June 2, at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Westborough. The rank of Eagle, scouting’s highest rank, is recognized throughout the world as an especially significant achievement. Cooper completed all of the requirements before his 14th birthday, making him one of the youngest Eagle scouts in the 89-year history of Troop 100. As a member of Cub Scout Pack 33, Cooper earned the Arrow of Light Award before crossing over to Boy Scout Troop 100 in 2009.  To date, Cooper has earned 33 merit badges. The one he most enjoyed working on was the sailing merit badge, which he earned at summer camp.  He has held important …

Cooper is an impressive young man and should be congratulated. He was my younger son's former Den Chief two years ago. I have seen Cooper grow up in Pack 33 and now Troop 100. Back in January 2009, I remember when he very confidently started an outdoor camp fire on a freezing night using flint to light ice covered branches after the major ice storm. Boy Scout Troop 100 Honors Newest Eagle Scout

Erik Brandt earned the highest Boy Scout award in both the United States and Canada.

  On May 5, Westborough Boy Scout Troop 100 will award the rank of Eagle Scout to Erik Brandt. Brandt. The ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. in the Congregational Church on West Main Street. Erik is now recognized as having achieved prestigious scouting awards in both Canada and the United States. In 2008, Erik earned the Chief Scout’s Award, the highest award that can be achieved at the scout level in Scouts Canada. The Brandt family moved from Calgary, Alberta to Westborough in September 2008 and Erik joined Troop 100 in October of that year. As a member of Troop 100, Erik earned 31 merit badges and held important leadership positions including Senior Patrol Leader, Instructor and Quartermaster. Erik was an active camper on monthly …

Alex Barnhart Honored as Eagle Scout

The rank of Eagle, Scouting’s highest rank, is recognized throughout the world as an especially significant achievement. Alex crossed over to Boy Scouts in March of 2004 from Cub Scout Pack 33 of Westborough where he earned all 20 activity badges, the Arrow of Light Award and the Religious emblem. Scout Earns Eagle By Expanding Charm Bracelet

The new scenic path stretches for a half mile around Lake Hoccomocco.

  Sixteen-year-old Westborough student Jake Sanders recently earned his Eagle Scout award by clearing a half mile trail around Lake Hoccomocco. The Westborough Troop 4 Boy Scout managed volunteer crews of about eight Scouts over two weekends this fall. The volunteers cleared trash, including scrap metal and tires, and trimmed back trees and brush before laying down a pathway that now connects to the Westborough Charm Bracelet. In addition to creating a scenic walkway around the pond off of Smith Parkway, Jake created a bench on the path that he made from cleared trees. On Nov. 13, he explained his project to a crowd who gathered to walk the new trail and listen to a Westborough Community Land Trust presentation on Lake Hoccomocco. Jake is …

Office Supply Drive is Part of Eagle Scout Project

Westborough High School senior Alex Knapp is collecting office supplies to donate to a suicide and depression helpline organization.

Westborough Boy Scout Alex Knapp, 17, is collecting office supplies as part of his Eagle Scout project. The supplies will be collected through mid August and will then be donated to the Samaritans, a suicide and depression helpline with locations in Framingham and Boston. “I chose this project because I have been volunteering for the organization for two years,” the high school senior said. He started working on the phone lines after a 20-hour training program that he completed at the end of his freshman year of high school. “The Samaritans is a nonprofit organization and has to depend on money from things like government grants. For his Eagle Scout project, Ricky Packer cleared a one-mile trail that begins and ends at St. Luke's Cemetery.

Wesborough High School senior Ricky Parker recently earned Eagle Scout by planning and recreating the St. Luke’s Walking Trail. The trail, which is a mile long, begins at St.Luke’s Cemetery, loops around an adjacent working farm, runs through the woods, and finishes back at the cemetery.    Packer joined Cub Scouts in second grade and crossed over to Scouts when he entered fifth grade. Being a scout has afforded Packer many opportunities, including a trip to Philmont in New Mexico this past summer. As part of his scouting experience, Packer decided to plan and recreate the walking trail as his community service project which would, ultimately, earn him the honor of Eagle Scout.  Parker knew right away that he wanted to do his community …

Church Fills to Honor Eagle Scout

On Sunday, Jan. 2, Nathan Askew celebrated his achievement of Eagle Scout rank. The Westborough teen is the 110thEagle Scout in the history of Westborough's Troop 100. The troop's first Eagle Scout was Walter Meigs, who earned the rank in January of 1925.  "I've been working my whole life for this," the 18-year-old said. "Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, I've done it all. Scouting is a huge part of my life so far." The Eagle Court of Honor celebration took place at 3:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Congregational Church.
