DPW Flushing Hydrants, May Discolor Water

Residents should run cold water faucets for a few minutes after the flushing.

  The Westborough Department of Public Works (DPW) will be flushing fire hydrants through June 9 on the following streets: Otis, Fisher, Whipple Tree, Assabet, Edward Dunn, Maynard, and the Arch / Glen area. Also included will be various dead end water mains throughout the town. Flushing will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday thru Friday. According to a statement from the DPW, residents should run their cold water faucet for two to three minutes to clear the water service line after the flushing and check water color before consuming or doing laundry. It's an early release day for the Westborough Public Schools.

  Each morning, Westborough Patch presents “5 Things You Need to Know,” a collection of announcements, events, reminders and odd little ditties to help you organize your day. What will you be doing today?   1. Today is an early release day for the Westborough Public Schools. 2. At 7:30 p.m., the David French Orchestra will present a spring concert. The program takes place at 53B Otis St., across the street from Astra Zeneca. Admission is open to the public and is free with the donation of a nonperishable food item. All food will be donated to the Westborough Food Pantry. 3. DPW Gives Away Free Trees for Arbor Day

The saplings are part of the third annual tree giveaway.

  The Westborough Department of Public Works (DPW) will once again be giving away free trees for Arbor Day. Fifty Blue Spuce saplings will be handed out at the Westborough Public Library, 55 Main St., beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 27. The giveaway will be on a first come first serve basis. Police Notes

Police to Collect Drugs, No Questions Asked

A town-wide drug take back day is scheduled.

  The Westborough Police Department, in conjunction with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration, will be holding a drug take back day on April 28. The event will take place at the Department of Public Works facility at 131 Oak St. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All unwanted medications can be dropped off with no questions asked.      Information courtesy of the Westborough Police Department.

Westborough Couple Marks 50th Wedding Anniversary

...and they are still going strong!

  Congratulations to Adrian and Roxy McDowell! The two were married March 31, 1962 in Westborough. Their family includes son Shawn and his wife, Alexis; daughter Crystal (McDowell) Coffin and her husband, David; and grandchildren Jake Coffin, who is in college; Brittany McDowell, a senior at Westborough High School; sixth-grader Denah McDowell and fourth-grader Shane McDowell. Adrian worked for the Westborough Department of Public Works and Village Lumber before his retirement. The couple enjoys traveling to Maine and Georgia.   Information courtesy of Alexis McDowell.

Chapel of the Cross will be home to thousands of eggs on Saturday.

  Each morning, Westborough Patch presents “5 Things You Need to Know,” a collection of announcements, events, reminders and odd little ditties to help you organize your day.   1. Chapel of the Cross, 160 Flanders Rd., invites Westborough and surrounding commnities to join in the Community Easter Egg Hunt and Fun Day taking place on Saturday, March 31 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  There will be thousands of eggs, free hot dogs and snacks, a moon walk, face painting, crafts, games and more. Arch Street to Close for Road Work

The road will close to through traffic for an estimated four days.

The Westborough Department of Public Works issued a statement today saying that the culvert replacement under the railroad bridge on Arch Street is scheduled to take place Feb. 13 through 17. Westborough water restrictions remain in place.

Issued by the Department of Public Works, the restrictions forbid outdoor watering between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Exceptions include irrigation to establish a new lawn or new plants, irrigation of public parks and fields, and watering private gardens and lawns with a handheld hose. 2.
