Officials: Give Harvey's Private Access to Mass Pike

The idea was generated to alleviate traffic issues at the Routes 495/90/9 interchanges.

  There are certain givens when it comes to the Westborough rotary: confused out-of-town drivers, Phil’s Barbershop and a passing Harvey’s truck. But a new proposal may take one of those constants away. At its March 27 meeting, the Board of Selectmen voted to send a letter to Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) Secretary Richard Davey in support of allowing trucks from Harvey’s to access the Mass Pike from Route 135 near the Hopkinton border. Allowing the access will significantly reduce the number of trucks going through the downtown areas of both Westborough and Hopkinton, Town Manager Jim Malloy explained. It would also ruduce harveys carborn foot print, putting tons less carborn into the towns air each year and that is a added health beniffit! It makes sence, it would improve the quality of life for the towns People and 11 years of debating a good idea is long enough!   more ›

MassDot Updates Public on 495/9/90 Traffic Study

  Information courtesy of MassDOT.   MassDOT is holding public meetings to discuss the progress of the I-495/Route 9 Interchange Study during two meetings in March. The first will be in Westborough on Tuesday, March 20 at the 7 p.m. Planning Board meeting. MassDOT's Office of Transportation Planning is conducting the study of the interchange in Westborough, Southborough and the surrounding region, including the I-495 and I-90 interchange. The purpose of the study is to address traffic congestion and safety issues surrounding the interchanges as well as congestion impacts on the two highway facilities. MassDOT will present the work completed so far in the 18-month study, which began in September 2011. This includes existing and forecast …
