The writer said he believes Dykema's vote against the online vote record amendment was a party-line decision.

Dear Editor, I am writing to respond Rep. Dykema’s letter explaining her vote against putting committee votes online. The day after her vote in the House, the Senate voted to put these votes online. Our representative is being misleading at best. Let me further remind everyone that last year when questioned about putting these votes online, she said the technology was now there and she would “absolutely” vote for it. Her filing a bill is nothing more than giving herself cover. During the rules debate was the appropriate time to consider the matter. Finally, it is clear that if the GOP has a good idea she refuses to support it, because she always votes with the Speaker. Amendments should be considered on merit, not party lines. I’m sorry, …

After voting down an amendment to post legislative votes online, Rep. Dykema said she supports the intent.

Submitted by Rep. Carolyn Dykema, D-Holliston. Last Thursday, the state Republican Party publicly questioned a vote I cast last week against an amendment to post legislative committee votes online, a concept that I had supported during a pre-election debate. As your legislator, it is my responsibility to explain any vote I cast on your behalf and I appreciate this opportunity to respond. While I fully support the intent of the amendment to increase transparency, passing this type of proposal without understanding the practical resource requirements is not something I could support. Unlike roll call votes, which are currently posted online and number in the hundreds each legislative session, there are approximately 6,000-8,000 committee …

The three-time state representative will be representing Holliston and Hopkinton, along with parts of Southborough and Westborough.
Democrat state Rep. Carolyn Dykema has won the 8th Middlesex District Rep. seat over Republican challenger Marty Lamb. Both candidates from Holliston faced off in a battle in which Dykema won, taking home 792 votes in Westborough, 3,169 in Southborough, 5,209 in Holliston and 4926 in Hopkinton. Lamb won 500 votes in Westborough, 2,315 in Southborough, 2,771 in Holliston and 3296 in Hopkinton. Numbers for Southborough were taken from reports on the Boston Globe's election website. Lamb conceded the race to Dykema earlier tonight telling the Worcester Telegram that he was proud of the campaign that he ran. "'I just want to thank all of my campaign volunteers from the bottom of my heart. We ran a good campaign and they were the best …

Incumbent a 'tireless advocate.'

To the Editor: To me, Carolyn Dykema is the definition of “good people." She is a tireless advocate who cares about our community. She has reached out to me when my family has been hurting, she has reached out to my son to help with an Eagle Scout project, she has reached out to the seniors, she has reached out to veterans, she has reached out on the environment, and has reached out to support our children’s education. Carolyn Dykema is a good neighbor who reaches out to the concerns and needs in the Eighth District. I am reaching out to you to show Carolyn Dykema your support on Nov. 6 with your vote so she may continue to reach out and support our community. Darlene Hayes Hopkinton

To the Editor: There is so much that my opponent fails to disclose about her voting record. She votes for the Speaker, not the district. My opponent fails to mention that the percentage she votes with the Speaker is 95.37. At the Hopkinton debate last week, Rep. Dykema admitted to voting wrong. She doesn't vote for the district. She votes for the Speaker 95.37 percent of the time. You don't have to believe me. I am happy to send people her voting record. She claims to always vote for the district, but yet she sent $35 million of our tax dollars to bail out Lawrence. That did not help Holliston, Hopkinton, Southborough, and Westborough. I am not surprised by this attempt to mislead voters, because on Wednesday, the Worcester Telegram …

Who do you want to see as the eighth Middlesex district state representative?
The election is nearly upon us and incumbent Carolyn Dykema and challenger Marty Lamb are both looking for a victory. In April Lamb, R-Holliston, announced his plans to run against Dykema and the campaigning has been going since then. Dykema, D-Holliston, and Lamb have discussed issues such as running a "clean campaign." and sales taxes. With only three and a half weeks left before the Nov. 6 election we want to know where you stand. Submit your vote in the poll and tell other readers why in the comments section.

On Sunday, state Sen. Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton) and Rep. Carolyn Dykema (D-Holliston) held a "meet and greet" at the home of Ilyse Levin-Kanji and her family, organized by Ilyse and Westborough Selectman Tim Dodd, to talk to Westborough residents about their concerns, and to answer questions. Eldridge represents the Middlesex and Worcester District, and Dykema represents the Eight Middlesex District, which includes Precinct 2 of Westborough. Both are running for re-election. Eldridge has announced endorsements by 37 selectmen and city councilors and 30 school committee members from among all 14 communities in the Middlesex and Worcester District. State representative candidate Marty Lamb (R-Holliston) and 25 volunteers, plus children, …

Courtesy Elect Marty Lamb Marty Lamb, Republican candidate for state representative in the Eighth Middlesex District, announced that he supports legalizing sparklers. "In a state that has decriminalized the smoking of marijuana, it just seems foolish that we cannot allow for families to use sparklers on 4th of July," said Lamb. "Let the kids have some sparklers." Massachusetts outlawed fireworks several decades ago, but most people don't know that sparklers are also illegal in the commonwealth. Only three other states besides Massachusetts completely outlaw all fireworks. 46 other states allow for sparklers plus a variety of other fireworks. "On the day we celebrate our independence and our freedom, here in Massachusetts we cannot use a …

An Open Letter to the Voters of the 8th Middlesex District and Candidate Martin Lamb Dear Mr. Lamb, I recently received your request to sign on to a “Clean Campaign Pledge.” My previous runs for office in 2008 and 2010, as well as for local office, have always reflected my belief that the way I conduct my campaign should demonstrate how I will act in office. I have worked hard to run substantive, respectful, issue-based campaigns and have never resorted to negative campaigning. Voters Iʼve talked with have appreciated campaigns that are free of distracting gimmicks and contrived campaign pledges. As such, there is one, and only one pledge that I will make to the voters in the district. It is the same pledge that I have made since being …

TY Michael. I believe that deleted comment ended with the question ''...is this going to go on for another two years?' The answer to that question depends entirely on Mz. Dykema. Will she continue to vote as directed by Speaker Deleo? Will she continue to break campaign promises? Will she continue to treat voters with arrogance and disdain? If she continues to behave and vote like an elitist left…   more ›
