From the heat blazing on marathon runners to the blazing fire at Stop & Shop, there were hot stories in Westborough this week.
1. Nineteen of the 20 Westborough residents registered for the Boston Marathon took on the record-setting heat. Patch provided live coverage throughout the marathon, a photo essay of the day and official results of our Westborough athletes. 2. A fire from the rotisserie oven at the Lyman Street Stop & Shop this week forced the store to close on Sunday, April 15. Heavy smoke damage was reported and several fire departments were at the scene to bring the situation under control. 3. A string of home break-ins has Westborough detectives busy. A fingerprint led police to a Worcester man, who will be charged with breaking and entering into a home on Dover Way. Anyone with information on other break-ins, including this week’s break into a home on…

Twenty Westborough residents were registered to run in the 2012 Boston Marathon.
Congratulations to the Westborough runners who are registered to run in today’s marathon. It appears that all but one chose not to heed heat warnings and pass on today’s marathon. As results for our Westborough athletes become available, we will post them here thoughout the day. Here is the current Westborough registrant list from the Boston Athletic Association: Westborough Patch confirmed that Susan Smith finished the marathon, though no official time was published by the BAA.
If we call it Marathon Monday, does that insinuate that the day will go on for a very long time?
Each morning, Westborough Patch presents “5 Things You Need to Know,” a collection of announcements, events, reminders and odd little ditties to help you organize your day. What will you be doing today? 1. Happy Boston Marathon Day! Today is the 116th running and it is expected to draw a half million spectators. 2. With thousands of fans expected to attend various Marathon Monday events throughout the Boston area, the MBTA will operate additional service to accommodate ridership. The commuter rail service in Westborough will operate on its regular weekday schedule. Due to the dramatically increased ridership, customers should expect delays throughout the day. For service information, including all delays, check T-Alerts. 3. There will …

Inexperienced marathoners are warned not to run on Monday.
Runners scheduled to run the Boston Marathon on Monday were advised to do so with caution. Because of the expected high temperatures of nearly 90 degrees on Monday, the Boston Athletic Association (BAA) issued an email statement on Saturday morning which offered a deferment to any official runner who would like to postpone his or her participation until 2013. “This applies to official entrants only who either have claimed or will claim their bib number packet at the John Hancock Sports & Fitness Expo through Sunday evening at the Seaport World Trade Center in South Boston,” the statement read. "Runners must claim their bib number for deferment to be an option.” The medical co-directors of the marathon, Dr. Pierre d’Hemecourt and Dr. …

Are you running the Boston Marathon this year? Let us know about it! Email westborough@patch.com so that we can include you in our coverage. Last year, we profiled many of the runners, and each day heard about new runners who — for various reasons — weren't on the initial list from the Boston Athletic Association. So, no hiding! Help us root you to the finish line in 2012! Congratulations to all of those who are in the final weeks of training! Here is the current Westborough registrant list from the Boston Athletic Association:
