Bagel Bistro Moving Across Street

The restaurant will move into the former Bangkok Thai Restaurant this winter.

The Bagel Bistro will move across the street this winter, ending a two-year search for larger quarters. The restaurant, caterer and wholesale bakery will move into the Downtown Crossing space recently vacated by the Bangkok Thai Restaurant, aiming for Feb. 1, owner-executive chef Stephen Chitow said today. The Bagel Bistro has rented space at 72 East Main St. for nearly 16 years, starting May 15, 1997, Chitow said. The new site offers the business a full kitchen; 50 to 60 seats, compared to 19 now; and space for a breakfast case, he said. "Eventually, we’re going to open for full breakfast on the weekends," starting in March, Chitow said. The restaurant currently opens Monday through Saturday. “There’s a reason why we’re not open on Sunday…

Bangkok Thai Closes

Business was less successful than the owner hoped.

The Bangkok Thai Restaurant has closed permanently because the owner/operator has been "running into some financial straits," his attorney said today. "B.B." had "tried to get people interested in taking over his license, without any success," attorney John Matson said. The restaurant at Downtown Crossing, 57 East Main St., has been closed since October.  The situation was expected to last two weeks, because the restaurant was "temporarily without a lead chef," who had worked there since its opening, Matson said in a statement at that time. The chef had "some personal (matters) out of state to deal with," the statement said. Today, Matson told Westborough Patch during a phone interview that "that matter was resolved. But, the fact of the …

They are good people who served good food. They enthusiastically supported participation in Arts in Common and the Westborough Spring Festival and I know that members of our Rotary club, which worked with them on those events, would go out of our way to have a meal or even meeting there. I think they were a little weak on the visibility and promotion side, but hoped they would get through all …   more ›

Chef's Personal Matter Temporarily Closes Bangkok Thai

Restaurant owner expects to 're-open within two weeks.'

The Bangkok Thai Restaurant has not gone out of business, despite what a "closed" sign may suggest. The East Main Street eatery at 57 East Main St. is "temporarily without a lead chef," and expects to "re-open within two weeks," owner "B.B." said Thursday in a statement released through his attorney, John Matson. "The chef who has worked at Bangkok Thai since it opened has some personal (matters) out of state to deal with," the statement says. Tuesday night, voters at Westborough's special town meeting authorized selectmen to petition the state Legislature for an additional all-alcoholic beverages license, specifically for the Bangkok Thai. The Bangkok Thai Restaurant held a grand opening at 57 East Main St. last Dec. 8. The Mandarin …

This is great news. BB and crew have made a great effort to be at home in Westborough, contributing wonderful tastes to the Westborough Spring Festival and Arts in Common. We can only hope the chef's emergency works out well, the restaurant is open soon and they get their much-needed liquor license. Oh, and maybe they will get a much more visible sign out front when they do light up again!   more ›

Two All-Alcohol Licenses Sought

Voters at Tuesday night's special town meeting authorize selectmen to ask Legislature for the licenses, for the Bangkok Thai Restaurant and for Bay State Commons.

Westborough selectmen will petition the state Legislature for two additional all-alcoholic beverages licenses: for the new Bangkok Thai Restaurant and for Bay State Commons. Voters at Tuesday night's special town meeting approved two requests by petition, each one authorizing selectmen to request one of the licenses. The Bangkok Thai Restaurant held a grand opening at 57 East Main St. last Dec. 8. The Mandarin Restaurant formerly occupied that site. Voters passed over a second warrant article, also a petition, seeking to accomplish the same goal for the Bangkok Thai. The second article was not formatted properly for town meeting, Town Manager Jim Malloy noted in his statement in the warrant. Westborough Patch blogger Gary Kelley did a …
