WHS Boys Lacrosse Team Helping Soldiers

The Rangers will donate the proceeds from Wednesday night's game to the Wounded Warrior Project.

"My son's friends are in the military," Westborough High School varsity boys lacrosse head coach Tom Baker said Friday. "A lot of them will probably be deployed soon." Soldiers, veterans and their families are encouraged to attend Wednesday night's game between the Rangers and visiting Algonquin. The proceeds from the 5 p.m. "Face Off For a Cause" match at Westborough High will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, which seeks "to honor and empower Wounded Warriors who incurred a physical or mental injury, illnesses, or wound, co-incident to (their) military service on or after September 11, 2001," according to its website. The fundraiser is the Rangers' community service project, Baker said. Admission is free, but donations will be …

Bragging Rights at Stake on Turkey Day

Algonquin Regional and Westborough's Thanksgiving rivalry continues Thursday at the Rangers' home.

Bragging rights will be at stake at Westborough High School this Thanksgiving. Neither the Algonquin Regional nor the Westborough varsity football teams are vying for the post-season entering their holiday rivalry's 10:15 a.m. kickoff. The Tomahawks are 2-8, while the Rangers are 1-9. However, "the Thanksgiving tradition between Westborough and Algonquin is strong," Westborough head coach Mark Ellis said Tuesday. "No matter what the records are going in, it's anybody's game," said Ellis, who's in his 16th season at Westborough, the last 12 as head coach. Pre-sale tickets are currently available for $5 at the Westborough High main office.  Tickets will be $10 at the gate. The Westborough High School Student Council will sell Lizzi …

Hubby just told me the teams are "evenly" matched, not "well" matched. Hmmm... okay, I admit to not knowing my football lingo too well... they sound the same to me, but he tells me there is a difference... the teams, by the way, "have the same record." :)   more ›

IMAGE GALLERY: Football Teams Mix Up in Last Game

Wait, is that the freshmen team or the JV team?

When the freshman football team from Algonquin Regional High School arrived in Westborough on Saturday, the players were prepared to take on the Westborough High School freshman team. About halfway through the 10 a.m. game, a little problem was discovered. The team was playing the Westborough High School junior varsity players, not the freshmen. Whoops! The compromise was to have the two junior varsity teams play a game and then have the two freshmen teams pair up to play a half game. Westborough Patch photojournalist Sue Wambolt captured the mix-up in photos. Have photos from the games?
