Holiday season will soon give way to election season. Candidates for local offices in the spring elections scheduled for March 6 have until Jan. 13 to pull nomination papers, and Jan. 17 to return them. Several seats will be up for grabs in what promises to be a year full of electoral interest, with the chairs of the school commitee and selectmen both saying they won't run again.  A full political calendar is available from the Town Clerk’s office.  2. Give blood, get prizes, the Friends of the Library meet and some ideas for the second day of school vacation.

Roll up your sleeve and get not only the warm feeling of knowing you are helping others at a time of year when blood supplies typically run low, but also a Bruins T-shit and a Wachusett Mountain Lift Ticket. Families interested in renting musical instruments can do so at Musical Instrument Rental Night at Mill Pond School.

Each morning, Westborough Patch presents “5 Things You Need to Know,” a collection of announcements, events and reminders to help you organize your day.   1. Musical Instrument Rental Night will be held at Mill Pond School, 6 Olde Hickory Path, on Sept. 14 at 5 p.m. The program is offered by the David French Music Company. String rentals begin at 5 p.m. and band instrument rentals are at 6:30 p.m. This program is offered as a convenience and parents are under no obligation to rent from any specific vendor. 2. Stop and Shop locations in Westborough are participating in a Troop Care Package drive. Through Sept. 15, customers can donate items at a designated location in the stores. The second annual Westborough Sprint Triathlon takes places beginning at 8 a.m.

Each morning, Westborough Patch presents “5 Things You Need to Know,” a collection of announcements, events and reminders to help you organize your day. 1. The Second Annual Westborough Sprint Triathlon takes place beginning at 8 a.m. on the Westborough State Hospital side of Lake Chauncy. The triathlon includes a quarter mile swim, a 14 mile bike course and a three mile run. The event is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Westborough. A portion of each registration fee will benefit the American Diabetes Association. 2.
