The 4th Annual Westborough Sprint Triathlon starts at 8 a.m. Sunday at Westborough State Hospital, off Lyman Street.

The Rotary is partnering with Sun Multisport Events and the Central One Federal Credit Union on the fundraiser. Part of each registration fee will be donated to the American Diabetes Association. Registration fee information can be found here

As of Monday, 340 people had registered, "moving toward a record-breaking event," Rotarian and committee member Bill Domings said.

The 2012 triathlon drew about 370 entrants, Domings said recently. Organizers hope for 425 to 450 this year.

The triathlon will consist of a .25-mile swim in Lake Chauncy, a 14-mile bike loop through the Boroughs, and a three-mile run that includes the lake’s wooded trails.

The new "Splash and Dash" option allows entrants to do just the .25-mile swim and the three-mile run.

An “off-road triathlon” is the other new option, geared toward "those people that prefer that kind of biking,” Domings has said.

These entrants will do a five- to six-mile off-road bike course on the trails around the lake, rather than the main bike route.
