Westborough Firefighters Running Muscular Dystrophy Drive on Saturday

The "Fill the Boot" drive is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Westborough rotary.

Many drivers' windows will be rolled down while traveling through the Westborough rotary on Saturday.

The Westborough firefighters will hold a "Fill the Boot" drive for the Muscular Dystrophy Association from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Selectmen voted Tuesday night to allow the firefighters' fundraiser in the rotary.

Motorists may give a voluntary donation while driving through the rotary, putting the money in a firefighter's boot.

The Westborough firefighters hope to raise at least $2,500 during the drive, said Rick Golden, president of Westborough Professional Firefighters Local 3070. Golden and Firefighter Dan Hehir are leading the local drive.

"Everybody knows somebody that's got a muscular disease: whether its someone you know who has ALS, or a rare muscular disease, it affects somebody," Golden told Westborough Patch.

"It affects everybody."

The firefighters have held the drives in front of places like Julio's Liquors and Stop and Shop, Golden said.

"We were trying to hit places where we'd see some decent volume of people," he said.

"We know we'd have the most success with the rotary."
