WHS Soccer Teams Prepare For Wednesday

The Rangers girls will face Wachusett. The boys will face Algonquin.

The top-seeded Westborough High School varsity girls soccer team's climb through the Sectionals has the Mountaineers on the horizon.

Wachusett defeated visiting Groton-Dunstable, 6-3, in the 2013 Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Girls Soccer Central Division 1 quarterfinals Monday night, according to the tournament website.

Westborough now will face fourth-seed Wachusett in the semi-finals at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Worcester's Foley Stadium.

The Wachusett-Westborough winner goes to the final, on Saturday, against the winner of Wednesday's Nashoba-Algonquin semi-final.

The top four teams in the bracket (in order) -- Westborough, Nashoba, Algonquin and Wachusett -- are in the semi-finals.

The Rangers and the Mountaineers tied, 1-1, on Sept. 17, their only regular-season meeting, according to the Midland-Wachusett League website.


Meanwhile, the Westborough High varsity boys soccer team will face Algonquin in the semi-finals at 5 p.m. Wednesday, at Nashoba.

Algonquin defeated host Shepherd Hill, 1-0, in overtime in the 2013 Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Boys Soccer Central Division 1 quarterfinals Monday night, according to the bracket website.

The Algonquin-Westborough winner will advance to the final against the winner of Wednesday night's semi-final between Groton-Dunstable and Wachusett.

Westborough beat the fifth-seeded Tomahawks, 2-1, at home on Oct. 29, according to the Midland-Wachusett League website.
