Wachusett Ends Rangers Boys Soccer Season

Wachusett advances to the state Division 1 semi-final against West champion West Springfield at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Westfield State University. The winner advances to the final.

The Westborough High School varsity boys soccer team's season ended Saturday night with a 3-0 loss to host Wachusett in the 2013 Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Boys Soccer Central Division 1 final.

Wachusett advances to the state Division 1 semi-final against West champion West Springfield at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Westfield State University. The winner advances to the final.

Westborough (14-1-3 regular season) was seeded first in the 12-team tournament, earning a first-round bye. Wachusett (12-4-2) was seeded third.

“Our boys played hard. They played well. But it just wasn’t meant to be tonight," Rangers head coach John Hillier said.

“Coming in here, for essentially a home game for them, that’s difficult to do in any district game."

The Mountaineers' first goal came from senior Kaiichi Ash, assisted by senior Jon Asperduli, with 28:16 left in the first half.

Wachusett scored again with 7:47 left in the half, by sophomore Liam Settlerlund, from junior Mike Baker.

Ash scored again with 26:40 left in the game, from junior Ben Amaral.

“We had some problems with the dead ball plays early in the game,” Hillier said.

“And then, we were trying to press them in the second half, and it opened up the left side of our field.”
