Rangers Swimmers Win Opener

Westborough (1-0) next faces Leominster, at 4 p.m. Monday at the Fitchburg State pool.

Junior Nathan VonDerVellen and sophomores Greg Cervenak and Sam Rong won two events each as the Westborough High School varsity swimming and diving team won its season opener, defeating Nashoba, 94-72, at the Clark University pool on Friday, Rangers head coach Bethany Bergemann said Saturday.

VonDerVellen won the 50 free and the 500 free, she said. Cervenak won the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. Rong won the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke.

Senior Ivan Truong won the 100 free, and senior captain Rachel Harris won the 100 butterfly, Bergemann said.

The Rangers won all three relays, she added.
