10-Year-Old Little Leaguers Hope to Hit Home Run For Jimmy Fund

The Westborough Little League's Family Fun Day to Support the Jimmy Fund is Sunday.

Westborough Little League fans will be watching the Target Field scoreboard on Sunday.

The Jimmy Fund will win, no matter how Sunday's event ends.

The Westborough Little League's Family Fun Day to Support the Jimmy Fund runs from 3 to 7 p.m. at the fields, behind Target at Route 9 at Otis Street.

Admission is free, but there will be charges for the activities, such as a dunk tank and a home run hitting contest.

The Westborough Little League 10-Year-Old All-Star Team hopes to raise $30,000 this year to support the Jimmy Fund, team manager Mike Stanton said Thursday.

Last year's team raised about $28,000, and for at least the last 10 years, “Westborough has been not only the number one fundraiser in the district (five), but the number one fundraiser in the state," Stanton said.

The players have sent letters to relatives and friends asking for online donations, which can be made here.

Supporters can donate to a specific player, or make a general donation to the team, he said.

The team had raised $13,423 online as of 10:50 a.m. Friday.

“The kids have been working at Roche Bros., up at the Mass Pike rest stop with the Jimmy Fund cans, soliciting donations," Stanton said.

The team also did fundraising at Westborough's July 4 Family Block Party, on June 28, he said.

“We raised almost $1,000 that night, which was a great head start," Stanton said.

Sunday's event will include such activities as a dunk tank.

“We’re hoping we can get some coaches up there. We’re going to get some league alumni," Stanton said.

There also will be concessions, a raffle and a silent auction.

“We’re going to have a radar gun so the kids can see how hard they throw the ball," Stanton added.

The team includes Drew Stanton, Cam Erickson, Drew Lewis-Keddy, Nick Pascale, Kevin McCarthy, Matthew Ragan, Grant Pellechio, Patrick Kelley, Tyler Nagi, Brendan McCafferty, Cam Sullivan, Luke Sullivan, Manager Mike Stanton, and Assistant Coaches Karl Erickson, Tim Keddy and Glen Pascale.

The rain date is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday.
