A new Westborough summer concert series ends for the season Sunday with support from a group that takes the stage in June.
The Class of 2013 is participating in the through a sponsorship on its behalf by Jennifer Cerny, the class secretary's mother, class Treasurer Mark Aronson says. The seniors also will hold a bake sale there, to "offset the cost of the sponsorship a little bit," he says.
Grace Morrison and the RSO will perform, with the opening act to be determined, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Aronson says the 260-member senior class actively giving back to the town -- "everything from supporting school events, school organizations down to 'the town really wants to see ths happen' -- is among his goals this year.
"We just want to have the town see the senior class as a presence in the town, as a supporting, breathing group within the town's community," he says.
The students' involvement with the summer concert series happened after promoter Sally Johnson sent out a community-wide message seeking support, Aronson says.
Cerny "passed it on to us: 'Hey, this would be a really cool thing for you guys to support,'" he says.
"Our class officers are all kids involved in the music program, so we have that kind of strong, musical leaning," Aronson says.
"We figure there will be local businesses supporting it, but wouldn't it be really cool if they had the support of the students?"
The class officers initially wanted to support a summer concert in the series, but they were all taken, he says.
September, though, gave the student "a little time to get the class together, get everyone back in the schedule, and have this opportunity where we can get our class out there to support this," he says.
"Doing things over the summer with kids that are school based just doesn't work out," Aronson says.
