State OKs Gibbons Study Funding

A renovation is eyed at the middle school.

The state will reimburse roughly 43 percent of a $375,000 Gibbons Middle School renovation project feasibility study, Westborough School Committee Vice Chairman Stephen Doret said Wednesday night.

The Massachusetts School Building Authority on Wednesday approved Westborough's application related to the feasibility study, the project's first phase, Doret said.

Voters at town meeting approved the funds to hire an owner's project manager and an engineer "to review what's required of the project," he noted.

"The next step is to have the school building authority review and approve the scope of work," Doret said.

Doret said the state grant will be for about 43 percent of the $375,000.

The state agency will set the figure in correspondence to Westborough officials, he said.
"It could be slightly higher than that," Doret said.
