Relay for Life Returns to Westborough

The successful event resulted from efforts of two high school juniors.

was once again the setting for Relay for Life. After a several year hiatus, the event returned because of the efforts of two high school juniors, Anna Skidmore and Catie Raissipour.

“My mom has been a survivor for two years. My grandmother survived cancer four times,” said Westborough High School junior Catie Raissipour. “I wanted to do something. I wanted to make a difference.”

Catie moved to Westborough in August of 2010, shortly before her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer.

When she shared her interest in Relay for Life with new friend Anna Skidmore, Catie found that Anna shared the same interest. Anna was involved in the fundraising event while living in Pennsylvania. The two girls, both new to Westborough High School, went to work to make the event happen in their town.

The girls wanted to bring a full overnight Relay for Life event to Westborough, Catie said, but were advised to start with a mini relay. The event took place on Saturday, May 12, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. At the start of the walk, over 100 were registered.
