Newest Gig Has Her Teaching Music in Westborough Year-Round

Mill Pond School music teacher and choral director Andrea Ehrenreich has run the Together in the Arts program here for 11 years.

By becoming the Mill Pond School's newest music teacher and choral director, Andrea Ehrenreich now teaches Westborough students year-round.

Ehrenreich has run the Together in the Arts program here for past 11 years. She started it as a summer program, and sometimes offers it in the fall and spring.

"I've worked with this age group for a very long time, and I'm very invested in the community here," she says.

Some of her recent former summer students are now at Mill Pond.

"That's been really fun to see them in a different setting," she says.

"They all come and go, 'Oh! You're here!'"

Ehrenreich moved here to Westborough in 2001.

She recalls teaching, at the time, at the Walnut Hill School in Natick, and raising two small kids.

The family was looking for a house and "wanted a school system that had a good fine arts program,” Ehrenreich says.

“That tended, for us, to mean they were also going to be a good school system overall if they were going to support that,” she says.

Ehrenreich says she taught at Tufts University and at Anna Maria College most recently.

And her children are now a freshman and a junior, respectively, at Westborough High School.

"It's nice to be closer to home for them as well,” says Ehrenreich, who is originally from Clarence, N.Y., in Western NY, between Buffalo and Rochester.

Ehrenreich will be performing close to home, with the Assabet Valley Master Singers, in November.

Teaching and family limit her performance schedule.

"I do it as much as I possibly can," she says, adding that she also does recital work.

Ehrenreich says she mostly performs classical music. She loves to sing jazz, she adds.

"There's not a lot of music that I don't love," she says.

"I dabble in all of it. And with the kids, I try to give them a really big cross-section of all the different styles when I can. To open up their ears as much as possible."

Editor's note: This is the first in an occasional series profiling the Westborough public schools' newest staff members.

She's a great teacher! Mill Pond is lucky to have her.
