Mayer Won't Seek School Superintendent Post

"As much as I love Westborough, I just love what I'm doing," he told the school committee Wednesday night.

Westborough Assistant School Superintendent Dr. Daniel Mayer says he won't apply to succeed Superintendent Marianne O'Connor, who will retire after this school year ends.

"As much as I love Westborough, I just love what I'm doing," Mayer told the school committee Wednesday night.

O'Connor announced last Wednesday night she'll retire. She said she has spent nearly 35 years in public and private education, including 22 in Westborough.

The school committee then met with Massachusetts Association of School Committees Field Director Michael Gilbert, who outlined the board's options.

Mayer said he and O'Connor have had "long discussions" about the topic.

Chairman Ilyse Levine-Kanji said Mayer's decision "makes our process a little bit easier."

"You would be a wonderful superintendent," she said.
