Concert Offers Taste of Schools' Music Program

Band-o-Rama drew a crowd to WHS on Tuesday night.

Two days before Thanksgiving, Westborough musicians in grades five to 12 gave their parents a taste of their work this fall.

Tuesday night's Band-o-Rama featured selections performed by bands from the Mill Pond School , Gibbons Middle School and Westborough High School .

The high school hosted two seatings of the concert, which, Coordinator of Fine Arts David Jost told the audience, sought to "entertain you and educate you about the band program."

The concert featured, in order, performances by the Mill Pond Grade Five Band, directed by band teacher Paul Tomashefsky; the Grade 6 Concert Band, directed by band teacher Karen Forrest; the Gibbons Middle School Concert Band, directed by WHS fire arts teacher Matt Lefebvre; the Gibbons Wind Ensemble, directed by Forrest; the WHS Concert Band, directed by Lefebvre; and the WHS Symphonic Band, directed by Lefebvre.

Forrest called Band-o-Rama "one of our favorite concerts." The staff can "visit and see all of the students that we've had" in recent years, she said.

Tomashefsky called the concert "an opportunity for you to see the progress in the program from fifth grade all the way up to high school."

Jost said one school musical group -- the WHS Marching Band -- was missing, but will perform at Thursday's Thanksgiving game.

"They're really a group you don't want to miss," Jost said.
