Assabet Drama Club Performs the Little Mermaid

Performances held tonight, this weekend.

The cast and crew of The Little Mermaid went to great lengths, with the help of the school’s Painting and Design program, to transform the Assabet Valley Auditorium into an under the sea playground, complete with bubbles and frolicking fish and seagulls. No, the school didn’t have to flood the room to accomplish this, but with the ingenuity of the set designs and creativity of the directors (Katie Cox and Derek Tenzar), the students provided an entertaining evening of song and dance, finishing to a standing ovation from the crowd.

Show times are at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and a 1 p.m. matinee on Sunday.

Grace Cormier (West Boylston) and Kimberley Berry (Southborough) rotated the part of Ariel over the four day production. Leah Ambrosino (Westborough) was Ursula. Prince Eric was played by Eduardo Freitas (Westborough), while Ava Rule (Marlborough) was the long-suffering but dedicated Grimsby. Chris Gannon (Clinton) wielded the mighty staff as King Triton, with his faithful crab, Sebastian, played by Dillon Kurzontkowski (Hudson). Carmen Wise (Shrewsbury) was Carlotta. David Gordon (Northborough) doubled as the boat pilot as well as a rather animated Chef Louis. The Mersisters and Princesses included Kayleigh Stevens (Marlborough), Hannah Pollan (Northborough), Bridget Landers (Maynard), Jennifer Moore (Hudson) and Cassandra May (Shrewsbury). Hannah Besaw (Shrewsbury) and Whitney Levesque (Northborough) were Flotsam and Jetsam, respectively. Other wildlife included Carmen Wise (Shrewsbury) as Flounder, Gianna Ferrecchia (Berlin) as Scuttle, and Kayleigh Stevens (Marlborough) also portraying the rather energetic Gull. Liz Lowe and Christina Fallavollita, both from Clinton, made up the Chorus.

Zachary Baldino (Shrewsbury) commanded the Stage Hands and assisted on Light and Sound Boards, Patrick Hughes (Clinton) handled Music and Sound Board, Grace Cormier (West Boylston) assisted with Music, Kaitlyn Pieniak (Boylston) assisted on Light Board and also managed the Main Curtain. Maeve Kendrick was the Choreographer, and Lily Plummer and Jillian Rainville, all from Marlborough) were the Spotlight Operators.
