Armstrong Students Learn to Look Under the Hat

"The most important part of a hat," musician Johnny the K said, "is the person wearing it."

After last Friday, Armstrong Elementary School students might look at hats differently.

"The most important part of a hat," musician Johnny the K said, "is the person wearing it."

Friday's enrichment program was part of efforts at Armstrong to promote the school's core values, Principal John Mendes said. The Armstrong Parent Group funded Johnny the K's visit, Mendes said.

Johnny the K told the students and teachers he has collected hats since childhood.

He wore several of them while singing to and with the group.

He opened his program by noting the different ways that people around the world greet each other.

"No matter where we go in this wonderful world of ours, boys and girls, teachers, we greet one another in our native tongue," he said.

And to him, the folded cafeteria tables resembled smiles.

"We need to start the day off with a smile," Johnny the K said.
